3rd Brake Light Lens Cracking...

I was about to start cleaning the truck up earlier and noticed a glare on the 3rd brake light that I haven't noticed before. I climbed in the bed of the truck and looked closer and saw a crack on both of the clear sections of the 3rd brake light. I ran my fingernail over them and couldn't feel a crack, so I pulled the lens off of the truck and felt on the inside and could feel the cracks then. They seem to radiate from the "mold mark" on the lens. One side is worse than the other (the crack on the right hand side is about 2x as long as the crack on the left). Anyone else had this issue? I'm going to run by the dealership service dept in the morning and get them to look at it and hopefully replace it. I'd hate for the cracks to continue to grow and reach the outside of the lens and eventually allow water to seep into the lens.

Right side (there are also 4 smaller cracks on the right side as seen running diagonally from left to right):

i would take in and see if you can get it replaced under warranty. i had a tail light in my 08 Aveo that was cracked along the seam, and was replaced N/C..

Stopped at the service dept at the dealership and the service advisor said that the service manager would have to take a look at it as he had never seen anything like that before. Of course, the service manager is on vacation this week. Got an appointment for next Monday morning to take it back in and have the service manager look at it.

Similar issue here. Had cracks on both sides, just about around where the screw sits on either side, almost like someone had over-tightened them. But the cracks didn't quite appear to emanate from the actual screw holes themselves. It was bizarre. However I was concerned with the possibility of moisture entering into the head-liner area as the interior of the lamp was already showing condensation on the inside. Ordered a new one from gmpartsdepartment.com for around $50 I think, came as a whole assembly, lights and all. Took about 30 seconds to swap out. Good as new! :)

However, prior to your post, I didn't think it was such a wide-spread issue? I wonder how many other NNBS have had broken cargo-lamps and thought nothing of it too?

Cheers and good luck on your rig! Hopefully they just replace it and send ya on your way! :)

Stopped back by the service dept at the dealership and had the service manager look at it. He told the advisor to go ahead and get it replaced. Lens was replaced and I was out of there in about 30 minutes.
