Door Lock Question

Hello!

First time here, very nice site!

Ok, my problem,, today i was driving my 2004 Silverado 1500 (about 95K miles) and the dash starts showing the "pass door ajar". Door was shut completely. Then a little bit later, while driving, my electric door locks started locking then unlocking. Did that about 10 times. It went away for a while, then later in the day, same thing, locking and unlocking real fast. Parked it for the evening, set the alarm, then about an hour later the alarm goes off. Nobody tried to break in or anything, it just started going off for no reason.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Might be the switch in the door going bad. But I'd start by checking your battery condition and cable connections, also check grounds.

Battery is all good. Truck and key fob.

Did you check the door switch, connections and grounds? What was the result?

 

My first bet would be the door switch, or a short in the wiring connected to it.

By "door switch" are you talking the door lock switch or a switch that lets it know the door is closed? If so, i belive that's in the door latch.

I am referring to the switch that tells the truck if the door is closed or not. That would possibly give you the 'door ajar' message and the alarm going off.

 

The locking and unlocking would indicate the door lock button is a possible culprit.

 

Since the likelihood that both of these are malfunctioning at the same time is slight, I would look at the wiring that goes to both of these in the door, the common denominator. Start at the inside of the door and work your way back to the engine compartment, looking for loose connections, broken or shorted wires, etc.

I believe, and i'll double check, i think the switch that tells the module that the door is closed is build into the door latch. I know the older cars had a push switch in the jamb itself. I haven't seen one of these on my truck.

I'll definately pull the door panel and check the wires and see if i can see anything that stands out.
