Broker, no one here can keep with with you, you work your trucks harder or should I say more than anyone I have heard of.  I don't think that all of the miles pulling is as hard on one as the stop and go, start and shut off, restart 20 or 30 minutes later.  I think that is the hardest thing on our trucks than any amount of miles we could put on them.

I agree. Constant running is better.(My opinion)On the engine.

The rest of the parts work at high temps for long periods at the time.Rear axel components are our biggest problems.Even the Dana 135's in the F-550 have to run coolers.

We haul goosenecks ranging from 25-34' long and tare weight of 5,200lbs to 6,500lbs and regular trailers IE KronKite trialers with our Positrac 4810 or Newholland on it... with our DMAX's everyday of their life...

We do not tow alot, but haul alot with our F550. With the rolloff system on it and an empty box, it weighs in at 12,500 lbs. We often run it up 19-22K, when we fill the boxes with shingles. This is roughly a day to day figure on the weight carried. The PSD does fine, but it definitely does not have the power the Dmax does. The PSD has about 55K on it now, and has been hauling since day one. The tranny has some funny days also. Sometimes it will shift kinda funny, and some days it won't downshift when it needs to. I think it is now just getting broke in though. The truck costed alot of money with the system we have on it, and I wish Ford would have put a more powerful engine and a tranny with a PTO on it. It does it's job quite well, but I am not the least bit impressed with the truck.

As far as Dmax trucks....I know a guy who buys a new diesel every 6 months because he sells them at 100K. He hauls snowmobiles from auction to auction. I think his trailer is a 34 footer. His first Dmax last year, he loved it, even better than his past Dodges and Fords. He did have problems though. One was some tranny trouble and he says it was due to running LT285 tires.(he runs 265's on his new trucks) The other was the injectors, and we all have heard how GM won't cover that. Nontheless, he did buy a '02 this spring and a '03 2500HD recently, so he must be very inpressed with the truck and it's capabilities.

I do have a question for Broker though. Your sig. says you sold your '01 Dmax. How can you sell a vehicle with that many miles on it? Who would buy it?

Roofer, I brought it to the Adesa Framingham MA Auction.

A guy from Vermont paid $8500 for it.I never have a problem selling them.Fully loaded and less than 24months old.

Yep, I do.  20 months old and 111,000 miles.  No comparison to you though but I only have one driver.....myself.

How is business Jeff?

Freight is slow now with winter coming on.  Hauling cars is just a filler so the Take 3 sits alot.  I normally plow snow mostly in the winter but nothing so far.....only rain.  Just been hauling alot of Ski-Doo's lately.  Got a question for you though.  Up here the trucking industry is not regulated.  No extra fuel or road taxes.  Pick-ups and semi's pay at the pump and thats it.  Up here we have no registered weight plates.  Like when I was in WI I had a 8K plate on the truck and a 16K plate on the trailer.  Up here they go off tire size.  With my truck and GN flatbed I would have to be over 50K to be over weight.  I never worry about being overweight.  Question is I noticed that your said your Dmax's were register at 25,999 and the 550's were 30 something.  I know that 26K and under you don't need an IFTA sticker.  Do you have to pay for IFTA on the 550's?

Broker,

Plus the rest of ya. Question?  Just curious as to what oil change intervals you go by? Also what kind, regular or synthetic? Have you had any oil analysis done to see how internals are holding up?

Ever consider running an oil bypass filter? I have a video of a Mack runing a bypass system. He installed it with 200k on the truck and continued by just changing the oil filters for the next 400k with a total of 600k on the truck. Having regular oil analysis done keeping track of the oil. Amsoil paided to have the engine torn down and inspected and it showed just about no wear at all.

Having differential problems. Have you considered Amsoils Series 2000 gear oil?  I have talked to a lot of people that use it and say that their diffs run a ton cooler since they switched. I assume that maintenance down time means no income. So the longer you can keep it in service the better, Correct?

I'm just curious. The more I can learn from the real world the better.

You guys are the true test beds for all of us. Thanks for keeping us informed and please keep us posted.

Oil change interval 5-7000mi (once a week)

Delvac GM/Rotella FORD

No oil  checks

Racor 2micron fuel + waterseparator

Right now we are running amsoil on all gear applications.

Rear axel problems are resolved with Sun pumps on the coolers up in the bed .

Broker,

I like the Take 3 for the most part.  You can't get to the upper vehicle frames to easy because of the frame of the trailer but thats it.  I am running my Michelin XDE-MS still.  They see OK so far.  Trailer tires are stock E's.  Its an off brand.  I am still on my original brakes pads at 111,000.  I still have half pad left yet.  I am running Amsoil B to B except the tranny.  Change out every 25K with Dextron III at the Allison dealer.  Later.
