Bottom Of Motor Is Wet ?

Recommended Posts

Was under the truck earlier today and noticed motor oil around the inspection cover for the tranny and a little bit on the back side of the oilpan. Not enough to make a drip though.

Can't seem to locate or see where its coming from, everthing above looks dry.

Truck info is in the sig. got 13000miles on it.

Anyone else have this.

Hey! that looks like if I just took the pic of the bottom of my truck.

Thats the same oil spot in the same place.

Then yes I have the same issue. I wipe it off and it usually takes a week or 2 to come back. I never have any drips on the floor or use any oil

You have tiny oil leak at CPS (crank position sensor) seal

Mine had the same, and after a couple of years I had the dealer check into it (dye, etc). It was the oil pan gasket on mine. Very slow seepage at the rear of the pan. Rubber gasket, iirc.

My '08 ended up pumping out 2 litres of oil and didn't notice until I backed out of the garage and the floor was soaked.

My issue was the dipstick. The 6.2L has a crappy design with the dipstick. When you yank on it, it spins the dip stick tube around the mounting strap, and makes it pop out of the block.

GM said it was "fine". I just loosened the mounting bolt, forced it back in and tightened the bolt. I make sure to hold the tube with one hand when pulling the stick though.

my truck has the same issue, currently I have the dye in the oil, appointment next week to drop it off for that and to look at why my dual zone doesn't heat the passenger side....

Theres a few good suggestions I will look into.

I'll get under it again this weekend and poke around to see if I can locate the leak.

My 09' 6.0L had been leaking for about a year and a half now. Similar to what you guys are showing but it progressively got worse. Up until yesterday, by the time i would come to do an oil change the oil filter, area around the filter, above the filter, tranny inspection cover, almost that whole area down there would be 'wet'. Not enough to drip on the ground, but all soaked.

Took it in to the dealer for warranty work (along with door actuators) and they took a look at it and concluded it was the engine oil cooler line connections. They replace the gaskets at the connection points and cleaned up the motor underneath. I will monitor it.

I had suspected either engine rear main seal or oil pressure sending unit but I aparantly not.
