2011 Sierra Keyless Remote Programming

Has anybody found a way for the owner to program additional remotes for the 2011?

 

All sources say to scroll through the DIC until the relearn remotes option is displayed. There is no such option on my 2011. I checked a 2008 and sure enough the relearn option is there.

 

I already paid the dealer to program 2 additional remotes but if there is a way for the owner to do it I would like to know. Seems like a ripoff to have to pay to have it done and I am starting to think GM is looking for every way possible to extract extra $ from the loyal owners.

 

Next I will find out about the TPMS when I put on my winter tires. On my Jeep and Challenger, I do not have to do anything, the TPMS system relearns automatically.

Dealer has to program remotes. I feel your pain. Had to go through it with my '11.

Yes, Starting in 2011 the dealer has to program keyless remotes. I saw this in the GM Tecklink January 2011 issue.

 

If the owner of a 2011 Impala, Escalade model, Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL, or Yukon Denali XL requests to have a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter (key fob) programmed, a scan tool must be used. This does not apply to Impala and Tahoe fleet vehicles.

TIP: Starting in the 2011 model year, key fobs can only be programmed using a scan tool.

In previous model years, it was possible to program key fobs for these vehicles using the vehicle's Driver Information Center (DIC), if equipped. Programming key fobs through the DIC is no longer an option on the 2011 model year vehicles.

Now I don't think it, I know it. But I guess I will get over it - at least until I install my winter tires/wheels.
