New user with questions about new truck

Hello all...

Tomorrow I am going to go pick up my new 2500 (not HD) GMC truck... :D It's black with neutral interior, 4x4 and fully loaded interior. The only things I plan to add or change is:

A) Bigger tires, keeping the rims, however, I wonder if I should ask the dealer if he can put the bigger tires on for me or if I should just buy new tires myself. Thinking about going with Goodyear Wranglers (305-70-R16) if I can still get them and they will fit on my '03 2500.

B) In the center console where there is an open space, I wanted to put a indash screen and have Nav w/TV without losing the stock head unit and keep all exsisting functions (steering wheel controls as well) anyone know if this is possible?

C) Either a spray on liner or under the rail bedliner, any input/opinions here would be welcomed.

and I think that's about it... any help would be much appreciated. I was going to go pick it up today, but a very rare and early winter storm hit us today and put ice all over our roads, and in SC, that's deadly, heck we can't drive when it's sunny and warm.. :D  and the dealership is 40 miles away from me, hopefully tomorrow I can pick it up.

Welcome fellow South Carolinian!  Was a pretty nasty little storm there... well for the midlands of SC at least.  Locked the Camaro and truck in the garage last night just in case.

I echo Shotgun's advice.  I had an under rail Rhino liner put in when my truck was only a couple of weeks old and have had no complaints.

Jason Pendlum(JP CUSTOMS) may be a good source for the console work.  I have a permatech spray-in color matched in my 99 that I've had no problems with and love.  Nowadays, if you're going to use your bed for anything, I'd go with a spray.  Others have Rhinoliner and such, so it's all a matter of what's near you.  Welcome aboard.

Ok I messed up the quote. deleted it.

Wow what an ice storm here. All the trees are leaning big time. Almost hit a huge branch on the way in to work.

As for the spray in liner. I went with Speedliner, one cause I know the owner of the shop and he cut me a huge deal. $360 to spray my truck. Rino wanted $460. I know a guy with Rhino and his truck is one that sits out side 24/7, his looks grey and feels hard. Where as mine still looks black and has a rubbery feel to it, and it sits out side 24/7 and is a year old now. I tried to research what I could on the different brands and it is all a matter of personal opinion. Speedliner comes in various colors. I was thinking of spraying the inside of my 65 Impala's trunk with it. The Indigo Blue to match the outside of the car. Never have to worry about trunk rot again.

Keep us posted!!!

I have an under the rail plastic bedliner in my 1997.  We bought it that way.  When we bought our 2000, it had a spray in liner.  Having experience with both, spray in is the way to go.  Stuff is always sliding around on the plastic one and I'm sure the bed is rusted underneath that thing where it rubs the metal.  If I ever get some extra cash (and if I plan on keeping the truck) I will definately put a spray in liner on it.

For those of you with spray ins...my spray in is discolored and pretty hard like Black02Silverado mentioned.  I don't know what brand it is since I didn't put it in.  Anyway, is there any way to "renew" it to a like new condition?  How much would it cost to have it removed and re-sprayed or can it even be removed?

Ask the dealer if you can pay the diff for the upgrade.

Most dealers have a tire shop that they do business with that would still consider your stock tires as "new".  Save you the most money that way!

In 1995 I bought a new Ext Cab Chevy that had those el cheapo Uniroyal Tiger Paws on it {I dunno whay but I always disliked those tires!}  Anyhow I think I paid about $70 more and they swapped em out for a set of Goodyear street tires that I liked.

Caint hurt to ask!

I have hurd on the forum that some of the guys have used 303 protectant on their spray bed liners and love what it does. You can always try a small area and see what it does.

As for removing it. I wouldn't bother. I would just ask what it would cost to, (and see if they can or will,) spray a light coat over top of what you have. That is if it is that bad and you just plan don't like the way it looks.

It's worth a try. Let us know how it goes.

It doesn't look bad...just looks dirty all the time.  But it matches the dirty truck, lol.  I will give the 303 protectant a shot and see what it does.  Anyone know where to find some?  Can I go to Wally-World or do I need an autoparts store or internet only?

Thanks,

B.J.
