Leaking rear window or side?

Does anybody have any experience with a rear or side window leak on a 'OO Sierra.  I took it to the dealer at least four times, now I am out warranty.  They replaced the side gaskets, the rear window seal, and I siliconed the rear space between the glass and the body.  Water is getting in when it rains and sits still. Help...Any Ideas??

Do you have a sliding rear window?  They are known to get a crack in the plastic molding along the top edge towards the outside.  My 99 has one in each top corner.  About $400 to upgrade to a better replacement or buy a tube of silicone and squeeze it into the crack(s) with a narrow tip.

Matt, I have the one piece window.  I tried the silicone trick but it doesn't work.  The only catch...I didn't silicone the bottom edge of the window and I have a hard shell tonneau, I wonder if that contributes?

did they ever change out the whole entire side window?  People were having problems with a wind noise and they were replacing the ext cab windows.  If it was documented under warranty it should still be covered if they didnt fix it

I've had that problem and almost everyone I know with the 99-02 Silverado/Sierra has.  The dealership replaced it under warranty but it still leaks and I will probably get it replaced again next time I have enough time to make the trek to the dealership.  D@mn, I just realized that means they'll have to take off my ventvisors.....anyone know where to get some good 3M Tape?

Yes, they replaced the seal on the side vent window.  Do you think that is where it is coming from? I have noticed new wind noise lately....I thought it was my vent visors...I'll call them and find out.  The water comes in from the rear somewhere and wets the carpet on the sill plates(is that what you call them)

I've had that same side window and seal replaced and it still leaks, but no as bad as before.  It's not the vent-visor making the noise because I had the noise before the visors.  My reccommendation is just to keep taking it back to the dealer until it is fixed.  That's what I am going to do once I get some time.

Dear Billbill et al:

Are you sure that it is the window?  I thought the very same thing.  I told my dealership that it was the rear window on the drivers side.

My rocker panel on the drivers side was holdoing water ever time it rained.  It was soaking the carpet and stinking up like fish juice.

After the second complaint at the dealership, the body shop man said: "Oh yeah....this is real common" and he pulled my drivers side door panel off.  Low & behold the plastic sheating that is in there had come unglued.  He taped it down really good and put my door back together.  Said that would fix it.

I didn't.

So they ran my truck through a leak test (I guess it's a machine?) and found that I was leaking water in from the front where the windsheild wipers meet the firewall area.

This time they got it...although I do not know exactly where it was getting in....it was running down the floorboard from up there where the parking brake pedal area is..... and pooling back in the back seat rocker panel area.

So:  Check next time you get wet inside....is the inside of your back door wet?  Is there any other evidence of a window leak?

If you can't see water running down, have your dealer check it elsewhere.  If you complained about it before your warranty expired....they ought to fix it for ya!

Whenever it rains here (not too often in AZ) or snows (even rarer) I can see the water leak in.  It happens every time I was my truck so I just throw a towel in the back so that the water doesn't make it to the speakers.   It is definitely leaking in through the window.  I'm gonna wash my truck this weekend so I'll snag a picture if I remember to.
