Low Battery = Possessed Dash Lights

I was working on the truck this weekend with doors open, and had battery power engaged (radio, lights). I usually hook up a charger when i do something like this to keep the battery from draining, but forgot. When I went to start it, the truck did some crazy things I've never seen with another vehicle. There were a few "dings", radio coming on, windows would work on one side but not the other, and the craziest... when i turned off the ignition and removed the key, the radio and dash lights would stay on, even if I opened the door. At first, I thought I had confused a computer, so I unhooked the battery for a bit. Didn't help. So, I hooked up the battery charger and it went back to completely normal operation. I'd say it's the craziest thing I've seen w/ a low battery.
