anthony2558 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 when rolling gown the window it makes a horrible noise. Only when down, not going up. Windows are tinted and it just sounds like a nasty against the grain rub. Its so loud i don't even like to roll the window down. I dont think its the track bars or the motor. Its only when down. Has anyone had this and was there a fix. Its out of warranty. thanks.
kstell Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Don't laugh, but I found a peeble in my drivers door window track that sounded just like that. I figured that it must have flown up in there when I had the window down and suddenly i felt like my electric window was on the way out. It made a grinding sound until it got past the point of that little guy...worth a look. Mine was half way up in the frame just sitting in there...good luck
xGMCx Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I also have tinted windows and the same noise, happens on colder and possibly damper mornings. Hideous screeching sound. Speaking of windows and tint, mine are also all tore up at the top of the glass. There must be a sandpaper-like material in the top glass channel.
anthony2558 Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 tint.. Thats what I think is causing this problem. There has to be something we can apply to the felt inside the window sill that slides along the glass(tint). I wonder if baby powder, maybe a dryer sheet would work. something to get ride of the friction? Passenger side not as loud.
2016 Sierra Owner Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 There is a TSB for the noise your are describing. I believe it involves the dealer greasing the window tracks inside the door. I have the same problem. Just have not gotten to the dealer yet.
SEVENONESIXZ71 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 i dont have tint and mine is doing this also, goin to the dealer today
SEVENONESIXZ71 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 they greased the sliders for the window and changed my door lock acutator while they were in there. my door lock was only working radomly
Mossyoakglock Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Greasing the sliders and window tracks won't help. That is not what is making the noise. It's the window against the felt. My truck has done it since new. I'm not sure if the tint is what is causing it but I have not found anything that works. I just have to live with it. I've had the dealership grease the tracks and I've even done it myself. Mine only does it when the temp gets below 45* also.
McTavish Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Mine also only does it in the cold weather. I have had it to the dealer twice and they just clean the felt. Of course they are working in a warm shop so the noise will go away on it's own anyway. Out in the cold the noise come right back. Now that the warranty is up, I'm sure the dealer will find a $$$ way to fix.
chucksnee Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Would like to bring this back to life....Any new news on this? Or is it just something we have o deal with?
SouthCo Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Don't blame the tint. My Tahoe, Sierra and my wife's Yukon Denali are all tinted and the windows are quiet. Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
Ryan00TJ Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I'm out of warranty and have been dealing with it. It only seems to happen during the cold months. It's not there in summer.
holty Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 My '08 Sierra and my '03 SS both tinted no noises like that at all. sorry guys its not likely he tint.
gabet95 Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I know exactly what you talking about. My 09 GMC Sierra has been making the same noise long before I had the widows tinted. Even more annoying is the noise that all 4 windows make when they are rolled down 1/4th to 3/4th of the way down. Windows start rattling like crazy every time I go over a rough patch of road or lane reflectors. Dealer states that it's pretty common for trucks cause the suspension is so stiff......I call BS!.!.!
