2007 NNBS Silverado intermittently will not crank

My Silverado has an intermittent no start problem. When it happening all I can hear is one click for each turn of the key. The engine fails to crank but my voltage gauge does not move and indicates over 12 volts. My clock and everything else is also functioning as normal and does not reset as when a battery goes dead.

 

Is there anything else such as a relay etc in the starter circuit?

 

I’m thinking that maybe the leads are dirty on the starter or solenoid? Maybe the Solenoid is failing? If the starter was failing it would draw down the voltage right? Could the solenoid be clicking but not closing its contacts?

 

Anything else I should check?

 

It could be coincidence but my truck was rust checked (undercoated) yesterday and hasn’t worked correctly since I drove it home?

If you haven't done so Check and clean all of the battery connections. In your case pay close attention to the grounds..Check and clean if needed the Mega fuse located on the firewall. In my case the positive cable was really corroded up causing the same problem your having and of course it was the last connection I checked.

 

Once that is done have your charging system checked at your dealer or a parts store to make sure your battery and charging system are all in order.

My '07 VMax did the same thing to me a couple times. I crawled under it...tapped the starter with a dead-blow hammer...turned the key, and it fired right up. I ended up putting a new starter on it, and never had the problem again. Like you, I thought it could be electrical or battery related...but everything else was working fine. Sounds like the starter to me.
