Temperature sensor?

Recommended Posts

Me and my gfs dad were talking about thermometers last night and i mentioned my truck was reading 27 degrees.  He asked where the temperature sensor was on my truck.  I am not totally sure.  I thought it was that little red bump thing on the dash (maybe that is only for the compass)

Anyone know where it is at?  Just wondering.

Thanks

On all the HD trucks I have looked at it's inside the grill, mounted on the trans cooler bracket to the right of the cooler (looking in the grill) in front of the radiator. It looks like a little "button", has a connector on the back and some plastic armored wiring going down and towards the driver's headlight.

cool thanks

I am going to check the helms manual when i get em soon.  We were discussing if it was outside the cab ice could make it read inaccurately.  As the same if it was in the engine compartment (reading warmer temps than the outside as the engine heats up)

HEhehe, thats why mine was reading almost 80 degrees yesterday when it was actually only about 30. I had the winter front on and it must have thrown it way off. I thought it was broken or something.:)

The button deal on the dash is the light sensor for the auto headlights.

Wonder if there is a way of improving the accuracy of the temperature reading, assuming the module is not taking on heat from the motor bay, radiator, etc.

My temperature reading is constantly three degrees higher than the real temp.  It has never been less than three degrees.  No big deal, but it kinda bugs me.
