Smoking Exhaust on Hard Acceleration?

Having an issue with my 04 Silverado. There seems to be some smoke in the exhaust when I floor the accelerator. I noticed the issue a while back , but had actually forgotten about it until I noticed it again earlier this week. The truck does not smoke at all under normal driving conditions( that I have noticed anyway), but seems to have a short "burst" of smoke when I floor the gas pedal. I noticed this on the interstate the other day when I needed to make a pass quickly. After the initial bit of smoke exits, it doesn't seem to continue smoking.. Any thoughts? Truck is a 5.3 v8 with 53,000 miles on it.

Thanks.

I dont know much about engines it could be to much fuel being pumped . You see that happen when some people chip there trucks and floor them and a bit of black smoke comes out . Dad told me when i was little that it was to much fuel being mixed or something like that . sorry i dont know what i am really talking about but those our my thoughts .

Yea, I was thinking the same. I rarely mash the pedal( only when necessary). 95% of the time I keep it under 2,000 rpm.

It had a dry carbon look to it, most likely from being rich.... I hope thats what it is at least.

i had smoke coming from my exhaust on my 01 5.3 only sometimes at startup and WOT and it turned out to be my water pump.

how does that work? the water pump pukes into the engine bay not into the motor

To the OP, if you rarely floor the pedal, perhaps it is just a carbon build up in the cyl/port area. If the colour is a dark gray, that is likely all it is.

Run a couple bottles of Techron in the fuel tank if the smoke is gray to black. My 02 will do the same thing, burning the carbon off. The techron will clean the carbon out.

Just make sure it's Techron Plus.
