Was just wondering about what I should expect to pay to add factory remote start to my 2011 crew cab LT? Thanks guys!

I'm about to do this in a couple days. You can buy the fobs you need from gmpartsdirect.com for 171.xx shipped or you can buy them at your dealership for 195.xx. My dealership said they would charge 25.00 on top of that to program the fobs for you. These numbers are USD. I noticed the other post was in Canada....

Your a lucky man. I've called just about every dealership in New Jersey and besides the price for the kit (17801236) i've gotten prices from 115 to 395 to flash my BCM.

Search online, there has to be cheaper sources for those FOBs. Anything over $75.00 for one is stupid.

its not the fobs, you need the code that comes with the fobs to enable in in TECH2

Thanks for all the answers guys. The dealership said it would be $225. I thought I would be able to save some money getting the fobs from gmdirect, but by the time you add shipping and handling, they were going to be $175. I have a 15% off coupon for parts at the dealership, so it will actually end up being cheaper there. I didn't realize my truck had the remote start prep package so all it needed was the fobs and programming. Hopefully get it done this week.

Thanks again.

Ahhh ok I thought that with the newer FOBs you simply program it using the DIC?

2010 and older trucks can add key fobs that way (2011s require a dealer visit) but regardless of year the dealer needs a special code to activate the remote start and that's what you pay for.

That sounds like a good price. I got a shipped price quoted from GM Parts direct and then had the dealership match the price. They also only charged 1/2 hour labor for the install. I was very happy.

I have the manual HVAC controls, I have yet to understand what needs to take place to make it turn on with the remote start. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Maybe the truck needs to be warmed up to a certain point for it to come on? IDK

The remote start prep package does not include the module to complete the remote start, fobs alone will not start your truck :(

The truck should keep whatever settings (temp., fan speed, head/feet, etc.) as what it was running when you shut the truck off last timeTheist being said, if you know you will be remote starting the truck next time, try leaving your blower motor on when you shut your truck off.

That is a nice dealer to only charge 1/2 hour labor. I've never heard of one doing that. Labor is where the dealer makes all the $$$ to pay the bills, plus a little mark-up on parts.

Well that is the thing, I keep the controls set where I want them but I noticed lately that after I remote start and go out the the truck that they are not on. I was wondering if the thermostat in the truck has to hit a certain temp before the HVAC comes on.... IDK

Yea they were really good about it. I honestly do not think that there is much effort needed to complete this job. From my understanding they connect your vehicle to the tech 2 and make a phone call to get some sort of code to type into the system to activate it.

None the less, they still get most of my service work unless I decide to do it myself.
