I asked a friend in Colorado about it. He replies:

"Yamaha makes good sleds an nice thing is that they are easy to tweak an bring the power out of. That would be a short track an we don't have many here to easy to get stuck. back east they do alot of river an lake raceing, we are into hill climbing an powder busting."

He is a great guy and will give you honest info. If you want to email him, let me know. He knows about the good and bad of many models and the good and bad mods.

Not to sure about sleds BUT Yamaha has a huge reputation of making ATV extremly detuned from the factory...ussually an exhaust (500$) will bring out 15-19 hp out of a yamaha ATV (Banshee from personal expierance)...FYI.

Wish chevy would do that... stock hp 38 with exhaust 53 aboiut a 25 % gain.... 300 hp stock with pipes nearly 400 hp :D hehe YEAAA! :wtf:  :)    :thumb:

Thats due to it having a 2 stroke engine, not because its a Yamaha.

anyone know if this is a decent price.  He sent me pics and it looks like its in real good shape.  Has less than 1900 miles on it

I don't know if it is a good price or not, but m,ake sure the track and shocks are in good shape.  If the suspension needs rebuilt, you can have alot of money in shocks.  Do a search on Ebay for snowmobile shocks, and you may be in for a shock!!!

If the track needs replaced that means even more $$$, and I think carbide picks are about $1.00 each.  For some reason I think alot of guys around here are running 144 picks in their tracks.

he said he replaced the rear shocks recently

thanks man just ask him if $2100 for a 96 with 1900 miles sounds good.  From the pics it looks real good

There are 2 Vmax 600's.  If its the DX, they're a heavy pig and he's asking for almost all of the money.  If it's the XT model, they're considerably lighter, but he's asking for all of the money and then some.

The miles sound good, but why so low for a 6-7 year old sled?  Did he not like riding it or was it broke down a lot?  When it comes to sleds, Yamaha makes a good one, but if it breaks down on ya', they're notorious for their costly repair bills.

I would pursue a Polaris or Ski Doo before a Yamaha. And if you don't have a trailer, you can often find someone selling their sled and trailer as a package deal.

Nope. The Raptor gets the same % from the Yoshi pipe... good idea for chevy still :chevy:

Not to get off topic in here, but the Raptor does not gain as much power as the banshee with a bolt on pipe.  That statement is just wrong.  A 2 stroke actually uses the head pipe to help control fuel & air in the cyclinder (thats why they look different from 4 strokes - ex fatty pipes)  A 4 stroke exhaust is only used to exit the burnt/unburnt gases.

I've ridden with guys that have owned both quads...night and day difference when you are modd'ing a Banshee vs a Raptor.

Anyways...I know little about sleds, I guess just make sure you go over the whole thing in person.  Just like any other ATV, look at the entire sled.  Check the ski's, tracks & open up the hood.  Take it for a spin if there is snow around...

here's is what my Yamaha rider friend at work says.

He thought the sled, if it's in the kind of condition you have described, wasn't a bad deal.  He said the track should be good, and that it's good the rear shocks were either rebuilt or replaced.

He said that in the mid 90's that sled was one of the better ones out there.  5 or 6 guys that he rides with all had Yamaha 600's and 800's back then, and they were all trouble free.  In fact he is still riding his 1995 Vmaxx 800.

He did want me to tell you that if that sled has a pipe on it, or if ever has had a pipe on it, to stay clear of it.  For some reason, (and it doesn't matter what brand of pipe), he said the way the carb is set up on that sled a pipe will tend to lean the motor out in it's midrange.  His buddy had a pipe on his, and even with rejetting and setting the needles, he still blew it up twice because it was too lean in the midrange.  he rebuilt it again and put the stock pipe back on and is still riding it today.

The XT model has a little more suspension travel on the rear, otherwise both models of the sled should be fairly reliable.

he mentioned that Yamaha seems to put pretty good quality into their machines.  He said his old 1995 Yamaha has less rust on it than his 2002 Polaris.

A guy I work with has a 1995 Vmaxx 600 XT with less than 1500 miles, and a 1996 Vmaxx 500 with less than 1000 miles and a 2-place Triton aluminum trailer and he wants 5 Grand for the package.  So I would say this sled you are looking at is in the correct price range.

    • I'm not sure if this should be a new topic, let me know if it's out of place. This my first post. Thanks 85077522 - AC Delco GM Genuine Parts Brake Master Cylinders. Anyone else had to replace this brake master cylinder yet. I didn't do any brake work, it looks like new parts and I've had the truck for about 4k miles, 119k total miles.  When it started to throw codes I did the calibrations with a bidirectional scanner and got the codes to clear but they came back so I did the routine; base bleed, automated bleed and final base bleed. All that with Bosch ES16-32N fluid (please look it up). That seemed to fix it but 100ish miles later it failed again so I ran the same process but with a pressure bleeder this time and got the same results, fixed for 100ish miles. The original fluid looked bad and I thought I got most of it out, it could've been the wrong fluid. The codes; P25A2, C05B0-00, C2A1B. I can get them to clear but not for long. The C05B0 indicates a leak in the front circuit (which is bone dry) so I'm thinking of doing the bleed process on that front again today and I don't know if that's taboo to just do the front but at this point it seems like it's worth the try anyway. The new master cylinder/module unit is supposed to get here today. But now I'm pretty much convinced this install is over my head. I've called several shops and some mobile guys that I know but this thing is like radio active material, scary wise. I did get 2 local shops say they should be able to do it, one says he has the SPS2 programing capability. And with the battery disconnected is there supposed to be pedal resistance, mine is to the floor, then if I pump it I can get some resistance. I had a panic stop prior to this issue which may have contributed from what I read. And on the first attempt to bleed and hydraulic test the scanner listed things to look for and one was any gaps between the pad and rotors which I did notice on the RF corner and I removed the outer pad (where the gap was) cleaned it and the hardware and didn't see a gap after that but will re-check it. I read that if pushing the caliper pistons back then you're supposed to open the bleeder so as to not push fluid backwards into the abs module or it will damage it. If that's true then that's also a possibility from the previous owner having the brakes changed before I got it. I'm using an XTool ip500 scanner. Any suggestions, questions and comments welcome.
