Steering pump

Hey guys, I lost my power steering and brakes last week. I bought a refurbished power steering pump from oreilly auto parts. I installed it and topped off the fluid. Started my truck and the pump made a awful winding noise. Thought I had air in the system so I started the truck, pumped the brakes a few times to pressure up the hydroboost system, shut the truck off, turned the wheels back and forth 20 times. Started the truck back up to the same problem. My power steering works but it makes mthawful noise still and my brakes still don't work correctly. I've tried the bleeding procedure several times and it seems like it gets worse more than better. I checked all my hose clamps and the fitting and they are all tight. What am I not doing correctly? Is it possible to have gotten a bad pump? The fluid level in the reservoir hasn't gone down so I'm pretty sure all the air is out f the system. Any ideas?

I know on my dads comercial fishing boat I had to turn the wheel like back and forth for like 5 hours strait . still a bit of air in it a year later .

Which problem are you trying to solve? Brakes & Steering are not connected in anyway that I know of. What happened to the brakes & what did you do to fix them? The brakes probably need to be bled some more. There is a lot of air to be bled off if system was opened. Start with back wheel cyIinders then move to the front calipers. Keep close watch on fluid in master cylinder while pumping/bleeding. I know, been there on this truck and a previous vehicles. Now steering if you've bled that for awhile, good fluid level, confirmed for sure pump is noisy & not a belt or pulley then take the pump back and get replacement/refund. I'm mean no insult just free ideas/suggestions. Also do a search on both bleeding procedures there are more ideas you may find useful. Good luck & happy reading!

Hydroboost connects the brakes and steering. You don't have it in your 1/2 ton.

It shouldn't have air in it but cracking the lines one at a time with the rig running should get the air out. Pump noise is usually caused by lack of fluid in the return line. There is air trapped somewhere for sure. I'd crack the lines and if that doesn't solve it, run the pump until it dies or try another one. Reman doesn't always mean perfect.

There is more than one pump replacement, and more than one flow control valve for these trucks.

The noise isn't belt contamination, is it?

Do you have good steering and brakes? And does the noise change dramatically at the steering stop?

I'm not sure if the noise is from the belt. It doesn't sound like it I stuck my head down by the ps pump and listened and I thought for sure it was coming from there. My steering is stiff and jumpy. My brakes click then break extremely hard when pressure is applied. It makes a louder noise when the brake pedal is applied. Ad steering is jagged. Sounds increases with acceleration. He sound changes when the wheels are full turn.

06 Sierra, thanks for your input but this is the heavy duty truck I'm dealing with.mthey have different steering pumps and have hydroboost which your does not

I'm on a ipad so I have lots of auto correct errors.
