Long Tube Header installation

I just bought a set of LPP long tube headers for my 09 Sierrs and wanted to know if the stock y-pipe has to be cut up to get it out. From what I see the trans cross member has to be removed but even then it looks like it will be very tight getting it out. I don't want to cut it up just in case I want to put it back on or sell it.

did yours come with a new y-pipe? how about cats?

according to this:

they sell the headers with a new y-pipe, and the end of the y-pipe looks like it should bolt up to the factory cat-back location. so if yours look like whats pictured in that link, then you shouldn't have to cut anything!

The LPP system I have has the Y pipe and the whole system will bolt into place, at least it should. LPP doesn't offer cats so I bought some cats and will weld them into the Y pipe. I jacked the truck up tonight intending on taking the stock Y and mani's off and saw that the stock Y pipe may have to be cut up to remove it. Wanting to know if anyone has removed theirs to see if it had to be cut it to get it out.

Got the headers on and was able to get the original catted y-pipe removed in one piece no problem. FYI: raise at least a foot, remove front tires and wheel liners) I didn't even have to open the hood for this job.The LPP headers were pretty easy to install. It took me a while to get the cats grafted in though. I had to lengthen the right rear 02 sensor wire, move the battery feed wire to the starter and add some heat shielding to 1 spark plug wire on each bank. I was worried about the ebay cats but so far a week has gone by and no error codes so I guess they're doing the job. The exhaust is considerably louder now and I am looking at adding some type of resonator or straight through muffler to calm it down. The VT muffler keeps it pretty quiet at very low engine speeds but its got a wicked loud rasp once the valve opens.

Been running with the headers for a little over a week now and have decided its too loud. I still have the stock cat back exhaust and am considering putting it back on. Has anyone got a LT header / stock exhaust set up and how is the sound, power??

sounds like you need cats back on the truck. that should tone it down. could use a quieter muffler. i wouldn't recommend the stock muffler, it may sound like a tin can under there.

That's just it, I did put cats on it. I welded them into the connectors right behind the headers. They are 4" diameter by about 9" long after trimming. Still loud as hell when you get on it any where past cruising throttle.

I've been running dynatech LT's on my 2009 6.2L since a month after I bought the truck. Ran it with both the factory exhaust and a corsa touring. Both set ups were surprisingly quiet, especially when cruising although the corsa gets pretty raunchy when you get on the gas. The factory exhaust was actually pretty loud inside, I had to get the corsa touring to eliminate the drone when cruising on the highway.
