Here's what I ended up doing with hot glue, paint and a dremel. I used SEM plastic prep before painting it with flat black. The SEM idea is direct from Walt. The paint is now bullet proof and will not scratch.

1) GM part #2087010 (this is the white receptacle)

2) Philmore Model 42-3546

3) Calrad 30-701

Items 2 and 3 from http://www.minute-ma..._and_Jacks.html although I didn't get them from this vendor. If I were to do this over again I'd buy this rather than items 2 and 3: Stellar Labs 24-12100, http://www.mcmelectr...2100-/24-12100.

Here are some pics.

The 3.5mm port after I removed enough plastic to make it fit. Note, I had to drill the existing hole in the receptacle to 1/4" in order for the new 3.5mm port to fit.

Back of GM receptacle after the aux port was soldered to the wire and hot glued in place. I cut the back piece to fit so that it could be hot glued back in place to keep the USB port in place.

Final install (note theshortened J-Link cable). The receptacle is parallel to the bottom of the glove box so it looks like it's not straight. I would put this closer to the back of the glove box and make it parallel to the rear of the glove box if I were to do it again. I also had to use a dremel to remove some of the dash to get the glove box back in since the receptacle is in the middle of the side. I found a glove box for $75 on eBay that I bought so I may do it again anyway. My girlfriend worked for GM for years and when I told her I was going to move the port she laughed. She said it looks it was done at the factory and that I was an idiot. I didn't disagree with the idiot part!

Great job on the install, that finished product looks great! So it sounds like the OEM Aux input is only a 3-pin connector, and that's why you had to mod the USB/Aux panel?

My truck has the USB port in the center console and I use it to charge my iPhone, so I access it a lot more frequently. I've had my OGM-1 for a couple of weeks now, but had not looked to see what it would take to reuse the factory USB port with the J-Link module.

I just ordered up a white USB/Aux panel, along with a hose of 3.5mm TRRS cables and USB adapters. Basically the install will be almost identical to yours, except that I'll be reusing the factory location, and replacing the USB only input panel with the USB/Aux version.

Thanks for pioneering this upgrade and posting all of the details.

Yep, I had to make it a 4 pole connector.

Thanks for the info.

As a quick fix for anyone that just wants to be able to use their factory USB port (dash mounted or center console mounted) and doesn't care about being able to send video to the Advent, you can purchase a USB Male A To USB Mini Female B 5 Pin Adapter which will allow you to plug the factory USB connector at the back of the head unit directly into the J-Link module.

I'll post some more on my upgrade, but thought I would pass along that option if there's anyone that uses their iPhone/iPod for music, wants something that will charge their device and only adds five seconds to their normal install.
