Darn Drums

I tried searching for and drum brake related topic cause I thought I seen one just recently but it takes too long on my phone so I have to make new, but my drums are stuck, sprayed pb let sit for awhile then beat the drum with a mallet didn't work, though pads were still holding so I tried loosening them but that didn't help so what can I do now? Haven't had a drum give me so much turmoil and this is on an 06 with min to no rust lol.

omg those pads are now garbage if you sprayed PB blaster.

This is usually the nature of drum brakes you either have to pound them till they come off, disconnect the emergency brake cable to allow more slack or if you can reach the adjuster screw from behind loosen the shoes off.

Lol, yeah I bought new hardware, drums, and pads so Im not worried just stuck drums.

Try striking the face of the drum with a heavy hammer all around the hub. Be careful not to damage the threads on the the wheel studs and don't attempt to strike the studs themselves. The drum should free up after a few rounds of impacts.

Most drums have two treaded holes opposite from each other in the front (near the wheel studs). They are there to put a long bolt in each hole and tighten up one turn at a time switching back and forth. The bolts are pushing against the hub forcing the drum off. It is kind of like a steering wheel puller. Hope this helps.

If there is not a hole on the opposite side to run a bolt through, get yourself a BFH and give it a couple shots. Should come right off.

If this the 1st brake job? My cavalier had little washers the some how locked the drum to the studs. Didnt see them in all the rust the 1st 2 or 3 trys of getting off till i read online.

more bad info for repair

these drums get a ridge in them after awhile and IF YOU want problems ..listen to previous advise..

the pull bolt hole THREADED into the drums are a good thing to use if you want the wheel cyl actuators/pins to break and after the removal of the drums,.......

not seeing the broken tabs results in the wheel cyl actuators pins to slip off the shoes and the wheel cyl pistons to pop out and puke brake fluid all over the ground ....

moral of the post is..... tooo.....

back off the adjusters FIRST and carry on with your unlicensed repair of the brake system

you guys are liable if you are the last person to mess with your vital systems and kill someone ,,

so ya know ....just sayin...check your insurance

Yep, seen the two bolt holes, grabbed what I thought were the right size and turned out to be just a wee bit small, tomorrow these things are coming off lol.

back off the adjusters and just pull the drums off,,,,,

simple ....but do what ya want i guess ,,,,dont listen to a GMtech or nothin

Im tellin ya, these damn things are frozen in place, the drums turn freely with no resistance, ill try pounding them off once more before I get screws on it.
