Not sure I want to go to 285? Just installed my RC level kit now trying to decide on tires. Will be towing thus my consideration. Will you notice the 275 height difference vs stock?

275/70R17 has sidewall of 192.5 mm

265/70R17 has sidewall of 185.5 mm

7 millimeters difference

Should be double that to get true diameter. To the OP, to find out the differences in height of two tires, you need to decode the tire size information.

Tire sizes contain all the info you need to determine overall diameter. The first letter defines the type of tire it is (P is passenger vehicle, LT is light truck, T is Temporary Spare, etc. The numbers after that are the section width of the tire. The next 2 numbers are the aspect ratio, given as a percentage.

To find out the diameter of the tire, take the Section Width number in millimeters(275), multiply it by the aspect ratio (70% or .70). You should have 192.5mm. This is the height of the sidewall. To get the diameter from here, you would double the height of the sidewall, and add the rim diameter. You will see now that tires are not sized logically. Either convert the mm to inches, or the rim diameter to mm. Personally, I convert to inches. There is 25.4mm in an inch.

In the example given at the beginning, the height of the sidewall is 7.58 inches, the diameter of the rim is 17 inches. Add two times the sidewall height to rim diameter, giving you 32.16 inches in overall height.

The other size being considered has the overall diameter of 31.61 (265 x .7 x 2 / 25.4 + 17 = 31.61).

Height difference between the two tire sizes is 0.55 inches.
