Awesome bike!!! I miss my last bike so much, '03 KTM 250sx. That thing was a rocket and the hydraulic clutch was like butter, but that thing had such a tall first gear I couldn't trail ride very well without heating up the clutch to the moon. I just picked up a '05 yfz 450 quad that was my buddy's and I'm happy with it.

Like you said though, 2 strokes totally kick 4 strokes asses when it comes to rebuilding and maintenance. I cringe at the thought of a top end rebuild on this quad and I'll be lucky if it is just the top end when it goes. I have hotcams so the valves have to be adjusted every 20 hours, you have to keep up on front end parts, carrier bearings, wheel hubs, ect ect.

Rip the living crap out of that thing and have fun doing it. There is seriously nothing like a 250's powerband coming on strong, unless it is a CR500. :D Did the guy upgrade the shocks or anything? Reason I ask is I weigh over 200 and every shock valve job has never been set up for my weight. Love the black rims by the way, excel's?

Nice Ride! Love yamaha bikes. I haven't been dirtbiking in forever, but I cruise around on my street bike a lot. Have fun and keep her right-side up!

Well by quad i meant like raptors and banshees, the ones that wish they were as fast as dirt bikes lol, now an atv or four wheeler as we call them is what i would like to hunt with also.

Raptors aren't that fast, they are heavy, tall, and top heavy so I don't know why you would even use them as a legitamate contender to a dirt bike. With that said any 250 2-stoke and 450 4-stroke bike STOCK will beat any STOCK production quad hands down, simply because of weight to HP.

Now when you start talking about modded equipment there is no ground to stand on to say a banshee will always lose to a bike. I've read about GSXR 1000 motors with turbos and NOS on sand drag banshees. Pretty sure that will beat a lot of bikes haha.

I don't hate on either or, they are both fun as hell to ride and if I could afford it I would have one of both.

around here a quad is anything with 4 wheels...my grizzly is fast as hell. 75 mph..but ya dirt bikes walk all over quads in the twisties.i almost bought a banshee couple years ago. came close but the guy was an idiot. didnt take good care of it, they are hard to come by nowadays. had a friend who owned one tho, they are fun as hell....rode a raptor once too, was not impressed at all. yfz 450 was just as fast i thought. i love dirt bikin tho...its way more fun i find.

Same thing my buddy on his YZ said, I'm not going to argue this over and over. You guy's are so right my Shee can't hold a candle to your dirt squirts. If you are ever in Michigan and want to show me how bad you are let me know

Uh oh.

I don't do any riding on bikes, only quads, mainly for work. As far as small outboards, and especially jet skis, I love the 2 strokes. They sound awesome, and they're so much easier to maintain. A little blue smoke never hurt anyone.

Is the banshee stock? I don't consider pipes and jetting modded though, is it ported and polished, stroked?

All I am saying is my old 2003 KTM 250sx was 50 HP from the factory, that Banshee is mid to high 30's at the rear wheels from the factory. The 2001 CR250 was mid 40's from the factory so do the math.

If the Banshee is modded then that is a TOTALLY different story. Stock to stock a bike will rip a quad everyday and twice on suday, and that is coming from a guy who sold his bike and went to a quad because to me a quad is more fun on the trails. My buddy builds drag banshees so I've seen a few and he said my KTM was insane fast, just sayin.

FAR from stock, it is stroked, 421 Big Bore, Cool Head, Stage 5 V force intake, (dont remember cfm) Large single carb, FMF gnarley pipes, FMF turbine core silencers. Also is about 50-60lbs lighter than stock. It is nasty fast and it doesn't hurt that I can ride it. I have run with bikes in sand, and trails. I know according to others I have no idea what I am talking about but the most heard comment from others when riding with me is "damn that thing is fast" or "I've never had a quad stay close in the trail I can't believe I couldn't keep up".

But it's all just type, I am not going to haul it hundreds of miles to shut some dirt squirt rider up. I know what I have and I know my riding capabilities.

I am wrong tho and them stock 250 bikes will whip my ass anyday and twice on Sunday.

Read my post again there bud, I said if it is modded it is a completely different story. I guess you just read what you want to, haha, because I am agreeing with you. I continue to say stock to stock a bike will take it, not a fully modded banshee.

I won't waste my finger energy on this anymore. I know what a modded banshee will do at 50+ HP and they are mean, I also know what a stock 35-40 HP stocker will do and my KTM would eat them up everyday. I'll take your anger with a grain of salt toward me considering I would put my money on your banshee against a stock 250 two stroke.

I won't even start a conversation on a modded 450 bike, those things can put out some insane HP numbers with revs over 10,000 and will do 80+ in last gear. It is all relative to be honest, HP to weight ratio with drivetrain loss is what it boils down to. If a bike has 60 HP and weighs in the low 200's and a quad has 60 HP and weighs in the 300's which do you think will win? You can't argue that point.

It wasn't directed to you, it was directed to the unknowing. You know the ones above you who talk big shit and know nothing. I don't have any anger towards this. I know what I have, I know what it is capable of, I have been riding it a long time. I have never have a bike leave me in it's roost on the trail. I have been beat at the dunes, usually by Shee's with extended swing arms and heavier mods than I have.

I have ridden a couple stock Shee's and to me they are like riding my lawn tractor, and yes would get smoked by a stock 250 dirt squirt

how did you take 50-60 pounds off . Thinking of the parts that make up the machine and even if you took all the plastic off that would only maybe way 20 pounds or less.

btw i dont know much about bikes and quads just wondering how you would take that much weight off. Smaller tires maybe? 50-60 pounds is alot of weight to shave off in my opinion when they try to make those machines light as it is .

    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
