btw i dont know much about bikes and quads just wondering how you would take that much weight off. Smaller tires maybe? 50-60 pounds is alot of weight to shave off in my opinion when they try to make those machines light as it is .

You can drop 30 lbs with just changing wheels and tires, front end (control arms) changed to Aluminum J arms. lighter weight aluminum bodied shocks, and swing arm. Chrome moly axle. removed all unnneeded wiring i.e. ignition switch. light weight aluminum bars, light weight clutch, and brake levers. lightweight aluminum radiator. It all adds up really quick

I thought they already did most of that stuff with racing bikes and quads but since I dont own one I would not know. Thank you for the explanation. I was just comparing it to the pedal bike I have and a top money bike is really really light for cross country mountain biking and it has basically already most of the lightest/strong parts are in top pedal bikes and I was assuming it was the same with racing quads and bikes. Most likely since quads and dirt bikes cost so much as it is they dont put the best materials already in it for more customers can afford one ?

They put nice stuff on them from the factory, but the Shee's still came with a steel wheel and heavy tire. The aftermarket just like for your pedal bike will still have better and lighter components available. The lightweight aluminum and Chrome Moly stuff is VERY expensive and would make a new quad out of most peoples price range

Read my post again there bud, I said if it is modded it is a completely different story. I guess you just read what you want to, haha, because I am agreeing with you. I continue to say stock to stock a bike will take it, not a fully modded banshee.

I won't waste my finger energy on this anymore. I know what a modded banshee will do at 50+ HP and they are mean, I also know what a stock 35-40 HP stocker will do and my KTM would eat them up everyday. I'll take your anger with a grain of salt toward me considering I would put my money on your banshee against a stock 250 two stroke.

I won't even start a conversation on a modded 450 bike, those things can put out some insane HP numbers with revs over 10,000 and will do 80+ in last gear. It is all relative to be honest, HP to weight ratio with drivetrain loss is what it boils down to. If a bike has 60 HP and weighs in the low 200's and a quad has 60 HP and weighs in the 300's which do you think will win? You can't argue that point.

It wasn't directed to you, it was directed to the unknowing. You know the ones above you who talk big shit and know nothing. I don't have any anger towards this. I know what I have, I know what it is capable of, I have been riding it a long time. I have never have a bike leave me in it's roost on the trail. I have been beat at the dunes, usually by Shee's with extended swing arms and heavier mods than I have.

I have ridden a couple stock Shee's and to me they are like riding my lawn tractor, and yes would get smoked by a stock 250 dirt squirt

 I also know the power of a modded out banshee. They handle pretty bad stock but if you throw aftermarket shocks, valved right, new wheels and tires, etc, they handle way better than I thought they would with being as long as they are. To be honest the craziest quad I ever rode was my buddy's modded quadzilla. That-thing-was-NUTS!

Well by quad i meant like raptors and banshees, the ones that wish they were as fast as dirt bikes lol, now an atv or four wheeler as we call them is what i would like to hunt with also.

We will have to agree to disagree, I know I can beat any stock 250 with my Shee, you know your stocker will beat my slowheeler. I will never have the chance to show you so you win dude quit whinning

BRAAAAAAAP!!

maybe in a straight line, but in the twisties there is NO way you would ever keep up to me on the shee. i know for a fact. you'd be eating roost aaalllll day :cold:

god now im just itchin to go riding...come on snow melt!!!! :banghead:

Same thing my buddy on his YZ said, I'm not going to argue this over and over. You guy's are so right my Shee can't hold a candle to your dirt squirts. If you are ever in Michigan and want to show me how bad you are let me know

ahahah i was waitin for that. you sound like a racer at heart!! i dont consider myself a "moto-x" racer but i can hold my own man, anything with a motor i can ride and ride it fast. most of my buddies all growin up called me "hey-wire"...LOL ive owned a few bikes...i can givver pretty good. BUT we will see soon how lazy ive gotten riding a four stroke, hoppin back on the smoker is gonna give me some arm pump i bet. come up to thunder bay ontario, lots of nice ridin bud...and that shee you got sounds STUPID fast LOL...ive never seen one that modded up in action before. must be a fun rig...lets see some pics of it dude

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
