new bike, watcha think

well guys its been awhile since i been around, trucks still runnin just fine anyways i bought a 2003 Honda cr250, funny story behind it. the guy turned out to be a priest!!!! AHAH but this bike had every bearing and every seal replaced last fall, new engine, forks, shock and few other new items. its a very nice bike..the priest took very god care of this bike and was the original owner LOL.its a little old but im sick of pay $1500 or more to rebuild four stroke bikes. they are just to damn expensive to fix nowadays, i dont know how people afford to put their kids in racing!?!?!? i had enough and went back to a two stroke..simple, fast and light. did i mention a way bigger smile on my face when that good ol' powerband kicks in!!!! i miss riding two strokes, forgot how fun it was! so tell me what you guys ride..two stroke or 4 stroke bikes????????????

Welcome to the 2 stroke militia.

I too have a 03 cr250. Been racing it for 8 years before I finally broke down last Oct and got my hands on a 2012 KTM 250sx.

You gonna moto that thing?

I've noticed at races that a lot of people cheer for the 2 stroke guy. Funny stuff

I myself run in the 30+ B class. Good times.

In a nutshell

2T: lighter, less moving parts, more power cc per cc when compared to a 4t, power curve is more abrupt and narrow(ish), etc

4t: good low end torq and linear power delivery. broad power band and considered easier to ride.

There are other things but this, I believe, sums it up nicely.

I like 4's, but racing needs to be cc to cc... not this lame AMA 4t handicap BS.

Be careful, last time i posted about my 2 stroke suzuki rmx, some trolls with quads decided to put their two cents in and start a war lol. But yeah, grew up on my 250 and have had it for years, it will be getting rebuilt ground up real soon when i return from the desert!!!

AMA is American Motorcyclist Association.

4 strokes needed a bump to be competitive back in the day so the AMA allows their engine to be almost 100% bigger. So a 125 2t races a 250 4t and a 250 2t races a 450 4t. Most amature races have evened out the rules, but not pro. And my local track uses the pro style rules unless you're a vet like me, then it's race what you got.

four strokes are pretty freakin fast too, but for me the biggest down fall is the price to rebuild them. my last bike kx250f blew a chunk off of the piston skirt at only 50 hours, completely destroyed the engine. cost me 3500. that was the tipping point for me, long gone are the days were a guy can rebuild a brand new bike for under 1500 bucks. this 2t cr250 i could rebuild top and bottom end with ease, for under 1500 bucks. yet i may have to put a top end in every season at only $150..maintenance on a four stroke is said to be almost 10 times the price. plus i missed the smell ....

I would prefer a quad I think . I hurt my self enough mountain biking ... but also can hurt my self with a quad more if I am dum about it from the weight. I think I would enjoy a dirt bike more just I know I would push my self beyond my limits with a dirt bike compared to a slower heavy untility/offroad quad. I think I could take it slower and enjoy the out side beauty more with a quad and a dirt bike I would be riding it for pure speed and send my self in the hospital.

actually this is a proven fact, more people have died on quads than on dirt bikes. because on a dirt bike you throw yourself away from it. on a quad they roll over on you, come to think of it...ive had mine roll over me...twice. never been that hurt on a bike. i have both...grizzly 700. the bike is more for a fun thing, quad is really ment for hunting...and the wifey. ive had way more close calls on the quad then i ever have on a bike, because you get brave. you think your invincible on a quad, speeding down roads like a pro...the worst for me has been sleds, ive been hurt pretty good a few times from sleds...the last one i had now sold weighed just 500 lbs but had 190 HP....death machine...

Dad was almost killed by his quad went over a log along a cliff and it rolled over and he just got off at the last moment . Quad was bouncing down the cliff . The plastic was messed up and the wheels where bent a bit but what saved it he had a big plastic box he had bolted down on the back that took alot of the beating and the speedometer was not on it anymore. Had to get two winches hooked up on it from two 6 wheeler quads to pull it out of there. The cool part was that he could drive it out of the trail still .

Quads are dangerous because they are easy but weigh alot of weight and squash yea like a bug. I want a quad because i can only really afford one and the quad I can take the long term girl friend out on and just enjoy are selfs out side . A bike would be more fun solo but my personality I know I would hurt my self and dont have enough friends to go with me if i hurt myself . When I get a quad.
