Is it a problem to drive a z71 with mismatched tires?

I don't see why not. It isn't a Subaru. As long as the tires are the same size.

Yeah it's just people say it will mess up your drivetrain and all this other stuff??

As long as there the same size there is no problem with it. People do it all the time to save money instead of buying 4 new tires.

so three same size same brand tires with same amount of tread with a different brand same size different amount of tread is okay?

Running a bunch of different tires isn't going to do wonders for your handling or wet weather performance. That might be a bit tricky. It should not harm anything otherwise.

Ive seen a different tire on one that would lock the rear end up at highway speeds and throw you into the ditch. You can play those odds, I wouldn't. When that gov lock sees a certian rpm difference, it locks.

Depends on how much diameter difference there is between the two tires on the same axle in 2wd, or diameter difference between all 4 wheels when in 4wd.

In theory, if there is a quarter inch difference in tread depth, that means there is a half inch difference in height, and on the stock 245/70/17 tires, that means about 1.4 inches per revolution difference. If the tire rotates 5 revolutions, the new tires will be about 7 inches ahead of the old tire. When in 4wd, on wet pavement, the truck will not drive nicely. Sort of like why you do not run the truck in 4wd on the highway on dry pavement. It will twist the truck since all tires have good traction, but in the rain, or snowy roads, the tires will slip to make up the difference diameter. Won't effect 2wd near as much.

Considering that a factory GM locking rear differential is inhibited above 20 mph, I'd say that vehicle had more diff issues than tire issues, for sure.

Thank you I was just going to post something like that it wont lock up above 20mph. Plus it has to be 100 rpm or better between the 2 wheels for it to lock.

Ya the govenor locks it in. Just checked it out on youtube. I didn't know the locking paw would move out of the way at over 20. Now i'm wondering what was going on with that truck. Is it 20 mph diference side to side? or vehicle speed of over 20 that causes the locking paw to move out of the way?
