A while as in like 2011? What's your point anyway?

Actually it was in October of 2009 - Time flies when your havin' fun, doesn't it? My Point - Well, if you want to call a GMC truck a Buick GMC, (sold at Buick dealers) than I guess it's allright to call a Ram a Dodge Ram. Seein' my point yet?

Nope because a Sierra was never a Buick. A Ram was a Dodge Ram since what? The 60s or 70s maybe? I know it's a Ram and try to type as such if I'm posting about one but if someone slips up and says Dodge Ram, calling them on it is just stupid.

So why the name change . I remember growing up and they where called dodge ram trucks for as long as I can remember . What are they called now dodge trucks? I dont see the differance really maybe a marketing thing . I remeber the dodge ram truck had the worst cabin and would fall apart on you .

To me dodge ram and dodge truck is the same thing . I have no idea why they stop useing the name besides becuase they had a bad product for a while with quality .

Chrysler announcement - October 5, 2009:

“This reorganization will allow us to protect and develop the unique nature of the product offerings within the Dodge brand,” Chrysler/

Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a statement.

The new brand strategy strips the Ram trucks away from the Dodge brand and will use the Ram name on a number of consumer- and work-oriented vehicles believed to include light- and heavy-duty trucks, SUVs and cargo vans. The Dodge brand, meanwhile, will keep the Caravan and be refocused to better concentrate on performance cars. The split also gives management the ability sell or kill either brand separate from the other should financial circumstances require it. The Ram brand will be run by the head of Chrysler’s Denver business center, Fred Diaz Jr., who will also take over as lead sales executive for the U.S."

I can't remember if i read it here or not, but i read several theories as to why the Ram name change. First i read that Fiat is phasing out the chrysler/dodge nameplate and rename them Fiats (leaving Ram for the trucks and Jeep for their own model line). The second theory i heard was by making it a smaller brand, then there would be leinancy towards the impending MPG minimums the government will be imposing. I believe that they did the same with the new Viper- its the Viper something or other, not the Dodge Viper
