Gas pumping issues?

Hello All!

Anyone else use Kroger/Shell gas?

I am pretty particular to where I get my gas I like to go to speedway and thats my usual fill up station. But for my birthday I got some gas cards to a Shell station so I didn't really mind where it came from as long as it was free. But as soon as I put it in and pulled the trigger "Click"! I must of looked like an idiot cause I kinda turned around and exclaimed "There it is again" I had to hold the nozzle at a certain angle to fill my tank and even then I had to restart many times "click" "Click" "Click". the same thing happened to me at a Kroger station every time I went. Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't have a Kroger near but most of the gas stations I have around here I always have to keep the nozzle out a bit. I wouldn't feel stupid over it, nature of the filler necks on these trucks. The people I don't care for are the ones that keep "topping off" their tanks. They must pull that trigger a hundred times just to get another .10 of a gallon in that tank. Drive me nuts...clunk, clunk, clunk.... Hang the darn thing up already!!!!

I use Kroger due to the available discounts on gas. They have a point system whereby purchases in a Kroger store go toward accumulation of discounts. Most groceries credit only the purchase amount. Buy Kroger branded merchanidse and you get double points. Prescriptions are 50 points. Gift cards are double or, sometimes, even quadruple points. We purchase gift cards for other stores we shop at... or restaurants we frequent... so we get the fuel points. When we have anywhere from 30 cents to 80 cents/gallon in fuel discounts, I want to get as much in my tank as humanly possible. So, I'm one of those who does spend some time topping off my tank.

Difference being, I usually fill between 4 and 5 a.m. There aren't many waiting in line at that time of the morning.

ummm pretty sure they are just trying to round the number off and dont be so annoyed over such a simple thing in life and I have never seen anyone do it a 100 times maybe up to 5 times.

I don't know why anyone would feel the need to "round up". The last time I paid cash for fuel was when I was like 17 before I had a debit card. I always just let the pump run till it stops and hang it up. I log my fuel use so topping off would mess up my numbers due to the inconsistancy.

Come on down to Georgia, sooo many people do it, and not just 5 times. It's annoying because it tends to slow down the other pump around them (which is always me). I understand rounding up but dang, give it a clunk and hang it up...

Plus topping is a bad thing to do, it potentially forces fuel into the vent valve solenoid which can make it toast.

i have no idea what that means but will not top it off anymore .

Topping off is exactly what were talking about. Those people that squeeze every possible drop into their tank by "clunking" that handle several extra times. When the pump clicks off, stop fueling, your tank is "full". It's bad for the vent valve system and if the temperature difference is enough (cold underground tank to warmer vehicle tank) you could be looking at an overflow situation...not a good thing.

so, does anybody have a solution? other than all the advice about not topping off? I have the same problem 2007 Sierra, doesnt matter the fueling station, have to hold the pump nozzle at a particular angle, and cannot use the nozzle lock to fuel. I have read some info about it being an evap system issue or a kink in the filler neck but nothing definitive yet. Just wondering if anyone has solved this issue. thank you.
