Oil leak - just got my truck back

Took my truck in for an oil change and had the dealer investigate a very slight oil leak. My dad complains when my truck sits on his driveway that there are oil spots. Never noticed them on my carport and haven't seen any evidence of it in my parking spot at work but for some reason my truck marks its spot on his driveway. Never had to add any oil. Anyway, took it to the dealer and told them to look at it after they change the oil. When I picked up my truck the service manager told me they put dye in the oil and to bring it back in a week so they could see where the leak was coming from. I already knew they would do this thanks to this forum. Keep in mind now, I've NEVER EVER paid anyone to do an oil change for me. I've always done them myself. I just decided to go ahead and let the dealer take care of it for me from now on because I'm tired of dealing with it. Call me lazy, but that's just my decision. So, anyway, after I paid them I went outside and got in my truck. I noticed one of those little self stick oil change reminders on my windshield. They had put the mileage on it for my next change. It is 3000 miles from now. WHAAAT??? I thought the OLM was supposed to tell me that. So, now, the questions come up. Is it because of the dye that I need to change it sooner? or is this just their way of doing more oil changes? Wouldn't a dealer have to use dexos compatible oil and have me follow the OLM to indicate my next change? What gives? Thanks all!

that's just their way of drumming up more business.

my dealer provides free oil changes for life when you purchase through them, you are eligible for your next oil change when the OLM tells you so. Personally I think it's too much hassle to deal with and just do it myself.... oh, and I have the dye currently in my oil, never was told that it would affect anything (they claimed to not spot any dye when I brought it back to them 1,000 miles later).

Some dealers still put a sticker in for 3/3000 service just in case. Use the OLM and no, the dye won't affect anything.

Don't worry about the 3,000 mile change, it's really not needed. I had my first oil change done at the dealer, took it in a 3500 miles. When they put the sticker on it was a 6000 mile change interval.

Let me know if the dye in the oil works!!! I had it done twice and they could not see it Light up with the black light they use.

They even put the dye on the metal work bench and my oil with dye beside it.. The Black Light does not light up either of the two samples.

The Gmc Hand book says this is the method they have to use to determine where the oil was leaking. Did not work!

Just my Rant with the dye. They end up changing both seals anyway when they had my transfercase apart.

They were originally checking if it was tranni fluid or transfercase fluid basicallly speaking.

The dealer is trying to please everyone. Some people complain that there is no sticker to remind them, some complain there is a sticker there. Don't like what the sticker says, grab the corner of it and peel it off. Roll it up in a little ball and toss it into the garbage.

BTW, did you consider maybe asking the dealer why they are doing that? Would seem to me that they have the most knowledgable answer.

Dang, did I offend? I didn't go back and ask the dealer because I had to go back to work and I figured since I'd be back there in a week I could clarify it then if I couldn't find an answer on my own here. That is a very busy dealership and those guys have their hands plenty full without me bugging them more than necessary.
