Installing 3.5mm input jack in GMT800 radio?

Hey all, I finally got with the times and bought a 16 gig Mp3 player. I have been looking through threads and can't find any, but I was wondering If anyone has installed a 3.5 mm jack into the stock radio on a 2004 Silverado? I have the Bose system, no xm, cd and cassette. I tried a cassette adapter I had laying around, but the trucks cassette player does not work. Also I don't like the adapters, too much static. I was thinking about trying to open the radio, remove the wiring for the cassette player and splice in there for the aux jack. Anyone tried this? Ive been inside these radios and im not sure if I can get to what I need. Thanks for any help. Also yes I have looked at adapters on crutchfield and such, I don't want to spend too much on this project.

I looked into it for mine, but ended up sticking with my Monster modulator b/c of price. No static, just a little quieter than the regular stations and cds.

Yes it is possible with basically any tape deck.

Sometimes you can splice directly into the wires that go to the head of the tape player other stereos you have to find the signal on the circuit board. To keep everything working right you almost always have to put a tape in and just let it spin for it to actually work.

Yeah I found an article on that. Im thinking I am going to have to get an adapter because my trucks tape player will not play tapes. My only other thought was to see if I could find a wiring diagram for the other connector on back of radio and see if any pins are inputs for xm or onstar and tap those. Sounding like Im gonna pony up for an adapter.

Interesting idea. If you find a way to make it happen let us know. I would be interested in giving it a try as well.
