GMT-800 Mirror Cap Removal

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I finally got around to painting my grille and I am gonna do the mirror caps next. So does anyone know how they come off. I suppose I could just tape it all up and paint them on the truck, but would rather pull them off and paint them in the garage. After the mirror caps will be the bumper cap.

Here is what I did yesterday to the grille. It was all grey. Not to bad for a 7 yr. old truck.

The mirror caps are held on by tabs and two-sided tape, so be careful when removing so the tabs don't break.

the caps just pull off, but definatley be careful. since yours are not painted or chrome i would definatley sand them down or try and find chrome ones or painted ones because they wont be rough plastic like the ones on there

I just replaced the passenger window "assembly". My cap was in good condition. The cap that came with the new assembly came un-painted. I had to swap them.

I actually used a paint can opener to get underneath the cap...then used a small diameter and long flathead screwdriver to get at the tabs...I snapped one of them. Be gentle.

-- your truck looks good, btw.
