Got Pulled Over with 3 Violations

I know I did wrong. I am human and capable of mistakes.

Unmarked late 90s Tahoe gets me just out of my neighborhood. Cops is nice but says I didn't have my seatbelt on. I was like crap he is right. I was pumped. I had my preworkout drink and was gym ready and didn't want to stop so I admit. I told him "You are correct. I apologize I just got in a rush to hit the gym." Which is where I pulled into as it's across the street. That will teach me to jog next time haha.

So he asks for my license and insurance. I start looking for my insurance and don't have my paper copy since I recently got my plate and then left it at home. Also I am just going to the gym and don't have my license.

1. I'm an idiot

2. I appear to not have insurance.

3. I do not have my license on me.

My thoughts= So does the back seat of a cop car have cupholders?

He says "hang tight"

Few minutes pass by and he comes back with a thick book.

"Please sign here for the seat belt violation"

I was like Thank God! I told him I appreciated it and it could have been worse I know. ($20 total)

He agreed and said as he was handing me the signed citation "I gotta tell ya, I love your truck. I have a dodge, but I'm a Chevy man." I told him I like dodge too (they ain't bad...they ain't foreign at least)

He says " I'll trade ya titles"

haha

"I'll trade ya titles!".

"Whoops, sorry, officer, but I don't have that with me, either".

You should have told him:

"When I stomp the pedal to the floor this thing runs like a raped ape. Wanna see?"

"TO OBSERVE AND COLLECT". But as you mentioned you were guilty. Thank goodness he only gave you the one ticket. The seat belt fine in Ontario is @$150 and 3 points against your license. On the ownership and insurance issue. I also have them scanned into my iphone, I'm sure not legal, but it has worked on my snowmobile before. At least i'm trying ....

I posted this on the FJR Forum some time ago. It fits here as well, sometimes poor judgement gets us all. :uhoh:

Growing up in a military and law enforcement family I have always had a respectful outlook towards LEO's. Chances are by the time they have pulled you over they have already heard it all this shift, let alone during their career. Once in a while just like any profession you are going to get a genuine jerk, but they really are far and few, be it male or female.

Last year during the summer months I was going to lunch with a friend of mine from work. I was riding my Feej and he was on his CBR600R. Right in front of our work place is an on ramp to the interstate. Just a couple blocks away is the local State Patrol office. Anyhow we were getting on the freeway and it being a beautiful day and no one in front of us I wicked it up a bit. I pinned it through second and third, then partly through fourth and shut it down and decelerating and easing into traffic. My buddy's yellow CBR was right in my mirror the whole time. I don't know exactly what speed we hit but at a glance I did see the needle at 130mph. Smart, no, fun well hell yes.

So we are now cruising with traffic and taking a ramp to a different freeway. As I am coming around the ramp and about 200 yards from entering the freeway I check my mirror as I always do. I see a grey Dodge Charger with tinted windows and my mind says "Hey that looks like a Stater" and just then the lights came on... uh oh. I immediately pull over in the medium between the ramps, shut off the bike, put down the sidestand and put my hands on the tank. I pulled over so fast my buddy didn't even see the cop untill we were stopped.

I watched him in my mirror get out of the car, he was definitely ex-military, my guess is a non-com. The walk, posture, etc, the man was squared away. He had numerous stripes on the sleeve denoting years of service as well as the rank of Sergeant. Basically he has seen and heard it all and I know we are screwed.

He approaches me first and says in what sounds like a Long Island accent, "You guys were really hot getting on the freeway, really hot" I looked him straight in the eye, nodded my head and answered affirmatively so he could hear through my helmet and freeway noise "Yes sir!". He then continued, "I couldn't get a gun on you but you were well above a hundred miles an hour." [As an aside in my state currently that is considered reckless driving and grounds for arrest and vehicle impound if they choose.] I nodded my head again and answered in the affirmative. He continued," May I have your license please? are you endorsed?" I answered yes and said it was in my left pocket and asked if I could reach for it, he nodded, I gave it to him and he said "wait here."

Now the whole time I am berating myself for being stupid and know I am getting at the very least a big fat ticket. After a few minutes he comes back, hands me my license and starts to speak. "Look, I want you two to slow it down, Glad to see your wearing the proper gear and you didn't run. I ride too and I know on a day like this its tempting to wind it up but its way to busy around here for that crap. So be safe and slow it down... Capiche?" " Yes sir, thank you sir!" was my reply

Still can't believe he let us go but he did. If I had been a jackass I am sure we would have been done.

^had a similar experience at work a month or so ago. A kid on a sport bike blew past me on my left doing triple digits as I had the work suv at 80 trying to catch up to some traffic and run tags. He then popped over into a slower lane without a signal just past an entrance ramp. Kid stopped right away, was very respectful, so I just wrote him a waiverable speed ticket and sent him on his way so he wouldn't have to see the judge.

$20 for a seatbelt ticket?!?!

Cost you $250+ here in TX, but at least it doesnt go on your liscence since its not technically a moving violation.

    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
    • Atlas, you kill me As aggravating as a project like this can be you have been unable to hide your fascination with learning and using that angst against this beast like a Ninjitsu Master. It amuses you, admit it now.      BTW, love your writing style. 😉
    • I gotta say, I'm enjoying your narration. The troubles you've been having are amusing as you describe them. It's good to see that you're finally getting some satisfaction out the old beast though.
