Ive heard of this being done but never tried it, So today i had some alone time with me and the sierra and washed it with dish soap to get everything off it, then hand applied some mothers polish to evrything including the glass, Let it sit an hr or so then went to the local car wash and ran it thru ..the one with the brushes..And man ill tell the truck looks GREAT!

Not sure the exact benefit of removing the polish wet..But it really ddoes look good. Has anyone done it this way..or have any other basic tips for detailing a white truck, Thanks.

I about had a fit when I read that you went through a carwash after applying wax, but after I reread it, I understand. Sounds like a easy way to get the white residue off. I imagine it does look really great, but I just wonder how good it will hold up? Let us know.

Ugh... Dish soap? Seriously? Brush car wash? Seriously? That's a BIG No-No!

Only wash using the 2 bucket method and NOT with dish detergent soap...

There are some wax/polish manufactures that recommend washing with Dawn to remove all old wax, Zaino is one that I know of.

BASIC ZAINO APPLICATION TIPS

THREE SIMPLE STEPS to obtain a true Zaino show car finish Step 1—STRIP THE OLD WAX

  • Wash the car, going top to bottom, with Dawn Ultra® liquid detergent.

  • Thoroughly rinse the car with a pressurized hose and spray nozzle. Make sure all detergent soap is gone. Leave Dawn in the kitchen since you'll never use it again on your car.

  • Dry completely using only clean, soft, absorbent towels.

Thats the reason i used the dishsoap because its known for removing oily substances..especially stuff you cant see, And the reason i used the brush car wash was to make sure the polish came off all the way. I usually hand wash. It does really look andd feel great.

I really want to clay bar and wax/polish by hand.

Dawn dishsoap will not remove everything. For example Collinite waxes

So how many scratches are on the truck after running it through those brushes that are used by everyone? How much polish is still on the truck after not removing it the correct way?

Leave the dish soap alone and get yourself a good clay bar and some detail spray. No way the dish soap removed impurities like a clay bar will.

Dish soap is only for removing wax.

Like stated above it will not remove all waxes....It's his truck and he can do as he pleases. Just don't see how anybody thinks it's a good idea to take your truck through a public brush wash. Causes more damage than good.

other than swirl marks, Why is the brush wash so bad?

And it did great actually..it removed 90% of the polish andd left a great shine!

I never used a clay bar.. but im going to read andd take my time with it..

The swirl marks on the tahoe we have are badd!! And i did the same with it " wash wax, wash"

And it looked a little better, but really need to get it buffed.

Honestly i know ddish soap isnt the best...its all i had and i did want to start with a pretty clean surface..

Dish soap is always my first step before a clay bar, buff and wax. not so sure i would have applied the wax then take it through the spin brush wash but hey, if it looks good and it work for you... cheers to that! Black is the hardest to keep up on...

Kind of answered your own question here... the brush wash is introducing more swirl marks.

Another note... you mentioned applying POLISH then removing it wet... polishes are corrective... by definition they are an abrasive used to remove microscopic amounts of the clear in order to correct surface imperfections like scratches and swirl marks. They do NOTHING at all for protection. Thats where a wax or sealant comes in, so as the process stands now you have left your paint unprotected and more susceptible to etching, swirls, oxidation, etc. than it was when you started. A polish has to be followed with a wax or protective product of some kind

The process itself, not sure again where you got the tips, is a little flawed. Wet removal isn't really doing anything... perhaps its some confusion of an actual detail process where sometimes the vehicle will be washed post correction to remove polishing dust and oils in preparation for the LSP (last step product) to be applied.

In the end, if you're happy with the results then thats all that really matters, I'm just pointing out there are some holes in the logic and product use.

As others mentioned dish soap is used as a means to remove or at least weaken the existing waxes and protection on the finish. Whatever isn't removed by the soap is removed in the claying process and/or during polishing. The reason for strip washing a vehicle is to minimize the amount of pad clogging that happens if you machine polish... old waxes clog up the pores of the pads making them less effective and leading to issues like pad dusting.
