Truck has already had new plugs, Seafoam treatment, fresh oil, transmission fluid anf filter, then a whole new transmission :nonod:, and fresh fluid in the T-case. Im planning a fluid change on the front and rear diff here shortly. Anything lese that needs to be changed?

I also have some questions about the fluid change.

What kind of things should I pay attention to while Im under there? Specifically, what kind of wear issues should I keep an eye for?

Is there any reasons that I shouldnt change the fluid? Fresh fluid seems to have killed my transmission, and I dont want to have the same happen to my rearend.

What abou torque specs on the diff cover?

Any other advice on the subject would be helpful. THanks.

Change your break fluid, power steering fluid, check your shocks, ball joints, suspension, check for leaks. Other than that I'd say you're good.

Why did you have to replace your tranny? Did you have issues before the fluid and filter change? I'm hoping you didn't do a back flush.

Didnt do a flush, just changed the filter and added new fluid. But, that seems to be all it took. lost 3rd and 4th gear within a few thousand miles. It was wierd though, I never noticed any symptoms until there was not 3 or 4 shifts.

I would change the upstream 02 sensors.

Check the pvc valve.

Inspect water pump seep hole for slow coolant leak.

Inspect radiator side plastic tanks for slow coolant leak.

Replace all radiator clamps with screw type and inspect all hoses.

Sounds like you have most of it covered above. Had you previously serviced transmission? Noticed any problems before the last service? I hear so many people say to never touch your transmission fluid because of stories like this, but I couldn't disagree more.

I bought the truck with 87K on it so I have no idea what service the trans had before that, but I hadnt been experiencing any problems except for a hard shift into and out of 2nd gear. Wierd thing is, it wasnt 2nd that went out, it was 3rd and 4th.

I replaced the fluid in my 01 S10 at around 115K (bought it at around 85K too) and never had any problems while I had it. Sold it with 145K and 0 problems. I guess its a crap shoot.
