Tire Size

There is a lot of talk about 18 inch rims, but not so much about 17s. I am wondering if I can fit a 285/70 R 17 with a 2 inch leveling kit. I am in the process of getting all the items and want to see what other members have found out so I don't waste money.

The largest size you can fit on stock wheels with a level is 285/70. Doesn't matter what size hole is in the wheel, over all size will be the same on stock wheels.

Thanks, I figured they would but wanted to make sure. Anyone have any pics of these size tires on 17's?

stock is is 31.5''

285/70/17 is 32.8''

That is correct if the truck was a 4X4 and came with 265/70/17 tires. If the truck was a 4X2 it came with 245/70/17 tires and the stock OD is 30.5".

What is the least (don't know if that is the correct terminology) amount of offset can be used with 285/70's? I am looking at rims with a -12 offset. I know they will stick out compared to stock, but I don't want to have to trim at all!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but wheel diameter does matter.

285/70/17 = 32.7 x 11.2

285/70/18 = 33.7 x 11.2

285/70/20 = 35.7 x 11.2

Op, expect some minor rubbing with that wheel/tire setup. How much will depend on the width of the wheels. Regardless it shouldn't be much.

So I have stock 17 rims. If I went with a 285/70 I would have to do some trimming? What size tire would I not have to do trimming or what offset would I need to get so I would not have to do any trimming? As you can tell I want to put the tires on and forget about them!

You shouldn't have to do any trimming with 285s. I am running 295s with zero trimming.
