What year did the bigger brakes start going on trucks?

I just had my 16" rims sold but before the guy left I wanted to made sure they fit. They didn't because the caliper was double the size of the old ones. So the deal didn't work out. What year trucks will 16" rims fit? Was 2007 the first year for the bigger brake package?

2005. The fronts got bigger and the rear switched to drums. From that point on 17" is the smallest you can go.

With this being said...With my 01, at what point in changing out my wheels should I be concerned with my brakes...or lack thereof?

Not sure I follow but a 2001 minimum wheel size would be 16" if that is what you're asking.

Yeah, I worded that poorly.

If I were to increase my wheel size, at what size should I consider upgrading my caliper size or switching over to drums?

Well I don't know that I'd switch to drums in back but the front calipers are a bolt on modification I believe.
