Ever had a tire go out of round? (Goodyear MT/R)

I put a set of 285/75-16 Goodyear MT/r's on my '03 K2500 Sub.  They seemed fine at first, but developed a highway vibration after about 700 miles.  I just got back from the local tire shop (not where I bought them).  They tried to spin balance the tires and found at least 3 of them were out of round.  I watched while they spun them and I could even see the wobble.  I can see this happening from the beginning as a defective tire, but how could this only happen after a few weeks?  The original tire place said they would take a look at them and replace if necessary.  I'm just a little concerned that it may happen again.  Would towing have anything to do with it?  I towed home my brand new 31 foot trailer around the time it started.  The trailer is very heavy, but the tires are rated for like 3300 lbs each.  I wonder if the weight damaged them???

I have never had this happen on one of my trucks but it did happen on my Fiero. I had the tires for awhile and then started to get a vibration. I jacked up the car and held a straight edge along the tread of the tire as I spun the wheel. Could see plain as day that they were out of round. Luckily, I had a road hazard warranty on them and they were replaced free by the tire dealer. I don't think weight was a problem for you since it certainly wasn't with the Fiero.

I bought my MTR's (265's) about 3 mo's ago and one was out of round before they ever got it on the truck (replaced about a week later). They have about 3K on them now and have not had any problem.  All of them whobbled a little bit but  they all balanced out and drive smooth.  I think they whobble on a balancer due to the aggressive tread and the tread depth.  The MTR's have 17/32 in. of tread and are very heavy tires. At 3k they still look brand new and I drive on a lot of gravel.  Hope this is of some help, my Goodyear dealer is very good about support and standing behind the product.

I had a set of GoodYear Wranger TD's. Two were replaced for this reason. Not knowing, I was paying for rebalancing about every six weeks for several months.

Wow.  I guess I'll give them a shot at replacement, since he said he already ordered them for me.  If another set goes bad, I'll go with a different brand.

If they are out of round and not flat spots then it was probably compensated for in the original balance and the guy doing the balancing should have noticed it.
