Torsion Bars "Tired"?

Recommended Posts

I noticed a lot of members on here have mentioned that a trucks torsion bars may be tired if the front is still sagging after a lift or level kit install. Exactly what does it mean by the torsion bars being "Tired"?

Ive pulled my torsion bars out multiple times and have laid a straight edge on the two ends and it always sits flat, but my passenger side tire always seems to camber in no matter how much I crank the torsion key. Does the bar maybe twist a little under all the torque and weight of the front end?

The truck does have 317k miles, so maybe mine are "tired"? If someone can shine some light on what "tired" torsion bars actually mean, and if mine are tired as well.

Just means that they have lost some of their rotational resistance. Its not a matter of beding so much as twisting.

So should I replace them or will the problem persist? I am about to install a 6" lift so now is the time to do it

Another question, I installed 2500 leaf spring packings (4 leafs, 5 including bottom helper spring) since my old stock ones were squeaking (TSB on them, they have 2 leafs, 3 with helper). I am installing my lift as I'm posting this, and got a Rough Country lift and they sent me 6" blocks. Since I upgraded the packings and they will give me some lift, should I go to a smaller block, say a 4" or 5" block? I had a 3" for my leveling kit, so maybe that will do? Thanks for the insight
