FINALLY! Got those damn automatic doorlocks fixed!

After searching everywhere and talking to Chevrolet, the only fix I was ever able to come up with was to take it to the stealership and pay them to reprogram the BCM. But that worked! My 2011 Silverado now has fully manual door locks. I'm no longer in danger of my wife ripping the door off in frustration.

 

But the question has to be asked, why does an owner have to pay $162 to get Chevrolet to turn off something that should never have been turned on in the first place, much less deliberately left off the owner select menu? This was a deliberate modification made on late model Silverados just to prevent owners from being able to decide how THEY wanted their vehicle to operate.

No idea why there's no option in the DIC to turn them off? I don't like the auto lock feature just because it wears out the lock components faster. My dads 99 Silverado won't lock or unlock unless you do it by hand since everything is so wore out.

I am 90% sure there is an option to turn it off. I think you can pick 3 options. 1:When you shift from park 2: After you reach a certain speed and 3: Off.

 

I would have to double check though...

Nope no option to turn the locking off. It will let me turn off auto unlock, but not auto lock. Thats senseless because your still going to have to unlock it manually anyhow since it auto locks so idk why they even give you the option for that...

You are right, you can change when it auto locks but you can't turn it off.

I just bought a '99 and it'll lock at 15 or 20mph. Just doesn't unlock when you stop and put it in park. I am going to try and reprogram the BCM and see if that will work. I've tried reprogramming it with the information for a 2000 and didn't work.

I was watching the Atlanta Nationwide race last night and laughed when I saw a track worker RUNNING out front of the Silverado track truck picking up debris, then RUN back to the truck....only to stand at the door and wait for the driver to unlock the door....lol.

Sorry Daryl, you would be incorrect. I think that was the option on earlier models, but (per owner's manual, manually checking the DIC and GM Service Rep), there is no option to stop them from locking altogether.

Was there any identifying or descriptive information on your repair order about how they did this?

 

I've asked 2 dealer service departments so far, and neither has claimed to know how to turn off the "auto-locking". I've been told they 'used to' be able to turn it off, but not any more...

 

It really annoying at times.

No I meant his locks are just plain wore out from them constantly locking/unlocking over the last 13 years that they no longer work on their own unless you do it by hand. I also have no idea if it can be changed on his truck since I have never tried it.

I personal like that feature on any-car when it locks going into drive,I feel it makes your car more secure while driving.

 

I can't think driving into Detroit with your doors unlocked

First thing I tried to change on my 2012 with no luck. I hate that damn auto door lock. On my 07 it gave me the option of turning off the lock

they found that would be a good dealer service, so they took it off the DIC.they would defintely wear out faster, never thought of that.
