Question's about DIC and Radio with XM radio

Hi

I'm looking at a newer truck 2010 with the 4.8L,I would want to add the DIC,but how does the tire pressure monitor system work.

Did GM from the factory already install the TMS Sensors in the tires on non DIC trucks? also will I gain option's like fuel milage left and switching between kph&mph.

My other quetion,If I install a factory radio with xm/sirius would it just be a plug and play and the dealership unlocks it.

I just don't know what gm from the factory installs on the lower end trucks like the LS models.

anyhelp would be great

thanks

On the DIC,yes....just adding it will get you all the information you want (IE-fuel mileage,trans.temp.,etc.) the tire pressure sensors are in every truck.

On the XM,you actually need to add an XM radio accessory kit from GM,the radio itself does not have the XM in it,it is a separate receiver, all but the base AM/FM radio have the abilitly to add XM,so if it has one of the CD radios all you need to do is add the XM kit.

Wow really!

Yes the only things the truck doesn't have what I want is the DIC and XM radio and a locking gate, also no steering wheel controls

That's why I'm adding what everything will cost.

Thanks for your help

It is a federal level req for all vehicle 2008 and newer to have TPMS from the factory

When my subscription expire I will have the xm brain available. My nav kit I bought come with a new one that is nav traffic compatable. The kit runs about 500 to have it installed, including kit as the kit is 250 dollars. I did not put mine in as it was worked out as part of the deal when i bought the truck so I don't know if the harness is already there. So, find out and if it works i will give it away cheap. It will only work with trucks that shiped with on star.

I don't know part numbers but you can certainly get pre-painted fog lamp housings.

As for TPMS, do you have the light on the gauge cluster turn on briefly each time you start the truck? It looks like a cutaway of a tire with an '!' in the middle. If not then I would say you do not have them.

look for RPO UJ6 in your glove box or take one tire off and replace with your spare and go for a ride. A little orange light should pop up on your dash that has a cuttaway of a tire with a exclamation point. this light will illuminate temporarrily when you start the truck a well.

i have not looked into the fog light project yet but i am interested in the chromw ones

    • I see where you’re going and I can appreciate that. Statistics can be misleading because of the word average. They say statistics show the average cost of a new vehicle is about 50k. The average monthly payment is close to 1000 dollars a month. That’s statistics for you. I know very few people who pay that.
    • same here , i have a 2020 first gen and the cost to repair these engines far excedes replacement
    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate.
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
