Complete dirt bike restoration

As promised, here are some pics, I only included the completed tear down with everything thrown into the corner lol, the actual tear down pics are reference's when I need them to build this monster back up lol.

Update: Just ordered $404.00 worth of stuff for the ol' bike, probably have about $200 left to get it in tip top shape so hoping to be riding soon!

What you get

Clutch pack, clutch springs, gaskets, handle bars, two tires and tubes, sprockets for front and back, chain, filter, reeds, throttle tube, levers, rear adjusters, seat cover, few more things I can't remember but I might have to add a fewmore things as a go along.

Was going to get the top end freshened up but decided to let it go and see how she runs first, This bike doesn't have many hours on it, i think less than 50, and the service manual at 60 hours still doesn't have you replace anything. Guess they made these rmx's built to last for cross country racing.

I would at least check compression, pull the head off maybe...gaskets are cheap

I planned on taking it off and inspecting it since I ordered the gasket set, hard to get individual gaskets for this bike now , though eBay has had a few hard parts I needed for cheap.I should get some parts in on Thursday so I will start the slow piece together this weekend.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new top end, now all I have to worry about is if the bottom end is holding up well enough.

 

Also, put the first top coat of flat black on it, this thing looks bad ass with the flat black!

Just check the connecting rod for side play with dial indicator and crank shaft side play/axial play...if everything is nice an then leave it...

Also plan to check for up and down play. Should be zero amount. Though I think this motor has held up tremendously since the years I rode it were all recreational and no racing.

I am still stuck on what color I should paint the plastic, I was going to do an all black thing but I am thinking of just the frame and repainting the original plastics yellow. Any thoughts on this?

This is my daughter when some of the parts arrived.

 

 

The frame still needs one more coat before I get the matte clear coat on it. I also have to sand down one of the joints to get a weld repaired this weekend.

I think the yellow would look good with that frame.

Tore apart the top end late this afternoon, will be adding pics tomorrow when I get home from work, everything looked good in the cylinder head and went about as smooth as it would allow lol. But, now that I got most of the engine complete except for the reeds that will be getting replaced when they arrive from overseas, I should be reassembling things soon but also awaiting my front forks and rear shock to be rebuilt and serviced so soon enough!
