GM new warranty for 2013

i was at the Cadilac dealership getting my denali's oil changed (Cadilac does the best car wash out of all my local dealers, probally because they service 80k suvs lol) and I noticed GM hacked off 30k off their power train warranty and added one year while browsing the new cars. I guess if you do not rack the miles up the extra year is nice, but after reading on hear I think GM is trying to skate away from AFM issues since they seem to appear around 100k when the lifters fail. what do you guy think about this and will this affect your future purchase of a GM vehicle?

it will affect my purchase as in i will not purchase an AFM equipped vehicle. i know problems with AFM are somewhat rare, but its a chance i dont want to take. id like to get a 6.0 or duramax in my next truck. definatley not a 4.8

and im also content with my GMT800 because its been paid off since the day i bought it. and i cant justify getting rid of a vehicle that runs perfectly and is in great condition even with 130,000 miles.. definatley a proven vehicle.. i dont worry about lifter issues or balljoints or thin sheet metal.

I think this deffinatly a loss, I believe people pay more attention to the mileage number over the year since it is a "bigger number" The sales associate I spoke with is a bit upset since it makes it harder to CPO used trucks as they typically rack up miles. The whole 100k warranty was a huge marketing push for many manufacturers and I truely feel it will affect sales. I have yet to see if dodge and ford are staying with the 100k warranty or not.

Last I knew this only applied to Caddy and maybe Buick but they also gained free maintenance to boot. GM isn't trying to avoid anything, the AFM issue is overblown. There are millions of the AFM 5.3s on the road by now probably and most run just fine. People never seem to get it in their heads that the percentage of issues on a forum aren't proportional to the real world.

fords warranty is as follows,

Bumper to Bumper: 3 years / 36,000 miles Powertrain: 5 years / 60,000 miles Safety Restraint System: 5 years / 60,000 miles Corrosion (Perforation only): 5 years / Unlimited miles Roadside Assistance Program: 5 years / 60,000 miles

and here is dodges,

We're confident in our vehicles, which is why we back them with a 5-Year / 100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty[1]. The Powertrain Limited Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair a covered powertrain component — engine, transmission and drive system — on most new Ram vehicles. Coverage also includes free towing to the nearest Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge or Ram dealer, if necessary. The warranty is transferable too, so if you sell your vehicle during the warranty period, the new owner will still be covered.

Plus, our 3-Year / 36,000-Mile Basic Limited Warranty provides bumper-to-bumper coverage for your vehicle, from the body to the electrical system.

Your right, I just looked at chevy's site and it is still the same, I assumed that all GM's were the same with exception of the of the maintenance mentioned. I understand what you are saying about the percentages but i have personally seen 3 trucks this last year at the base hobby shop were sailers were replacing lifters. They were earlier specimens of the gmt-900 line though.

We'll see. Mine should be a good test mule. With the current job situation I should do about 30k miles a year now so problems will pop up fast if they exist.

Yes Buick is affected by this change too. I just purchased a 2013 Enclave and it came with a 4Y/50K bumper to bumper warranty and a 6Y/70K powertrain warranty. I did not get any maintenance of any kind with this purchase. GM just changed the warranty to better suit somebodies needs other than mine

I did purchase an extended warranty through a dealer online that was selling them for less than GM employee pricing. Buick's GMPP price category is set up there in the range of the Cadillac's. Makes me wonder how much they are going to raise the cost for parts :nonod: Guess GM is trying real hard to get Buick in the luxury catagory.
