Truck Weight

I ran my truck across a set of scales at a job site we are working at. She weighed out at 5540 lb. without me in it. I don't have a tool box and the bed was empty. That seems a little heavy to me for a extended cab short bed. What do you guys think? Registration has it at 4100 ew.

My registration also lists at 4100 lbs, but 5500 lbs actually sounds about right... I remember after I got mine, I did a search for the curb weight of SCSBs and I think 5500-5800 lbs is about what I came up with... :smash:

Shanners sounds about right for a 2500 crewcab but the 1/2 ton xcabs sound high to me.  My 1500 reg cab 4x4 weighs 5050 with me (165 lbs.) in it.

It seems kinda high. I guess the scales I used are accurate. They use them to weigh freight trucks at a distribution warehouse.

My '97 Tahoe 4x4 4dr LT weighed in at 5,300lbs, so it's right in the ballpark.  Also, how much gas did you have in it.  I think a gallon of gas weighs around 7lbs (or something like that) so the difference in a half tank of gas (some 15 gallons can add up).

FYI, I wouldn't take too much stock in what the registration stuff claims other than your name, addy, and the actual vehicle info itself.  Otherwise, they're just averaging what the common weight's, power per liter (or whatever form of measure they use), etc, etc over hundreds of thousands of vehicles from all manufacturers that they have registered on their system.

I've calibrated a few scales (older manual not electronic

) and then proof tested them. 10% was not uncommon at the bottom end (10k lbs.), But accuracy was 2% at midline (30k lbs.)These tolerances were considered acceptable by the Bureau of Weights and Measures.

Depending on the scale, your truck may be too light for an accurate measure.
