Custom intake tube

anyone done a custom intake tube on a 09+ 5.3. i have seen many article on 07 and 08 but i know the MAF is a little different on the 09 and 10 and was wondering if any of you tried to do a custom intake tube on your 09 or 10

I have the FIPK. Looks great with the enclosed aluminum airbox.

i think im gonna end up going the MIT route wasnt sure it would work but i read elsewhere that it was fine on a 10 5.3

x2. I did this on my 2011 5.3. Not sure if it added real noticeable power (Blackbear testing shows a definite gain) but it sure sounds faster!

 

A few tips from when I did mine-

 

I don't know where you live but if it's someplace cold, bring in the rubber bits the night before to let them warm up! I left the kit in the bed overnight and the next day it was cool out and they were an absolute pain to slide onto the throttle body and the MIT itself. Also, to me the instructions weren't terribly clear what to do with the little breather tube that is attached to the factory intake- it needs to come off completely, the rubber hose simply slides over the steel pipe on the engine and the other end hooks to the supplied hose barb.

 

 

Ryan, you'd like my friend whose shop we did the install at- he took one look at my (filthy) engine cover and airbox lid and had to clean them before we could do anything else.
