2010 GMC TPS

Yes mine says specifically 2010 GMC Sierra and described the same problem as you just described.

The code that the dealer read was P2119-"throttle return to default." that sounds like a sensor issue and it's not possible to replace just the throttle body or just the sensor. They replaced the entire unit but told me that they did not replace the sensor which is not correct and led me to be a little irked.

There should be a "refund departmenr" address on the letter. Send a copy of the bill marked PAID to them and they will send you a refund check. That's what it says to do if no luck with dealership. Give it a shot, it's worth a try.

Just received the same letter for my 2010.

If you don't mind sharing, how much did they charge for this repair? Did they say what failed within the throttle body? Hope it works out for you.

I posted a copy of the main body of my letter for a 2008 Silverado in this post http://www.gm-trucks...5

(Our 2010 Enclave has a near identical letter on revised oil change schedule and timing chain warrenty extension)

Based on a few of the posts in the above thread I sent a letter to Chevrolet with these 4 questions:

  1. Does the vehicle have to be in Engine Reduced Power mode before a dealer will address the problem described in the letter?
  2. Does driving the vehicle a long distance under Engine Reduced Power cause powertrain or emission equipment damage that would be the owners responsibility for repairs?
  3. Does one need to have a related ‘P’ code stored to prove an Engine Reduced Power has occurred?
  4. If it is determined that the throttle position sensor is not the cause but instead a faulty wiring or some other component in the throttle control system, who pays for the repair?

I was suprised to get a phone call from Chevrolet - a very nice lady who had no technical background to understand the questions. After a few minutes of discussion I

asked her to have someone with a technical background to call me or at least review the questions. A few days later a young man calls me from Chevrolet. He was just

going through the same scripted response as the lady. He had no technical backgound to understand my questions either. I expressed my dissapointment in not

getting any usable responses/information with respect to my questions and said close the case if this is all I will get from Chevrolet.

A few weeks ago I had to disconnect the battery to replace a front impact sensor. Whatever cleared in the electronics made a

big difference in idle and throttle response.

Just a follow up. The dealer told me they would not repair under the GM bulletin so I got in contact directly with GM Reimbursements and after review they did reimburse me for the repair. Not sure what the dealership was trying to pull.

The cost of the repair after tax was $520 and that was what I was reimbursed. It took no more than two weeks to get the check from the day I mailed in the claim with supporting receipt, dealer invoice showing the repair and the claim form. GM is back in my good graces.

Looks like your dealer was trying to pull a fast one myself, I'd go there and let them have it for trying to screw you

everything is an assembly on these trucks and neither can't be serviced seperate

Back in January the "engine power is reduced was coming on regularly. Called the closest dealer who said I had to bring it in with the codes for the TPS warrenty. Well I could not be without a vehicle for a day and driving it in that mode would take forever. Or I could pay for a tow. So I decided to just replace the throttle body myself. Here are the codes, the P2135 all the time and the P0121 sometimes.

The red arrow points to the light grey locking tab that needs to be removed before the main plug can be removed.

Installed in less than 10 minutes. You can see 3 of the 4 nuts/bolts.

Curious about the innards of one of these throttle bodies I decided to open up the old one.

Looks like all I have to do is pop off those clips.

Now much in there. I did expect more with the multip prong input. Tried to take out

the motor, sheared off one screw head, Other came out with some difficulty. Pried a bit

on the housing but no budge. Tossed in trash.

I had the "Service Traction Control", "Service Stability Control", "Engine Power Is Reduced" messaged also the same two codes on my 2011: P2135 an P0121. my TPS sensor failed on me at a little over 52,000 miles. I was on my way to a horse fair in Springfield, IL this past March 2013, about 100 miles from my destination. I pulled into a hotel after 15 mins restarted and it was fine, drove another 80 miles an it failed again. limped the rest of the 20 miles on the side streets to my hotel and limped it to Friendly Chevy, in Springfield, IL in the morning. They found the TPS bad, replaced it, my total cost was $257 to fix. I can't complain cause this is the first issue I had with this truck as is was flawless up to this point. I now have over 57,300 miles and never had an issue again. Friendly Chevrolet in Springfield, IL was an awesome Dealer and I thank them for their GREAT service!

My TPS sensor looks exactly like what Mr_Rooney's pictures, I know GM uses this same sensor on a whole bunch of engines. I have the 4.3L V6 in my 2011.

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
