2010 GMC TPS

I've had a few problems with my truck. The biggest being the TPS. This problem usually leaves me on the side if the road after flashing "service stabilitrak" "service traction control" "engine power reduced" and then dying while going about 65 mph.

I've taken it to a dealership to have it fixed and a couple weeks ago, I received piece of paper from GMC stating that there is a known issue with throttle position, should be fixed at no charge, etc.

The dealership is replacing the entire throttle body today as that is the only code they have gotten the truck to throw (they couldnt replicate my dead on side of road condition.)

My question is, should replacing the throttle body be covered under the fix that GMC sent out about TPS?

It should, provided the plug or wiring to it isn't damaged. Too bad they aren't putting a Corvette throttle body in there!

Is it necessary to replace the entire throttle body in order to replace the sensor?

Update: I picked up my truck today and had to pay the full amount for replacing the throttle body as the throttle body was not part of the TPS known issue (although it is my opinion that the throttle body failing has something to do with the electrics that lead up to it.)

It seems to run fine now. I could not get it to fault out with my usual cruise control driving and the engine light has not come on and it runs much healthier so I'm hopeful and confident that it's fixed.

Although later if its back up to it's old tricks I will be disappointed that all they fixed was the throttle body and not the sensor.

No it didn't and i guess I need clarification on if it's supposed to.

I don't see how they charged you. I got the same letter for my 2010 and it sounded like what happened to my 2003. When my 2003 Tahoe was saying reduced engine power and would barely move it was the Throttle Position Senor (TPS). The shop said in order to change out the TPS the whole throttle body had to be replaced. The TPS was not able to be replaced seperately. At least they told me that. I think I paid like 300-400 for all the testing and new gm parts. This was about 2.5 years ago...

That is what I wondered about. The dealer said that the only code that was thrown after they cleared out the 11 that were in it was a throttle body code. I wonder if they are trying to say that the throttle body is what was bad instead of the sensor even though both have to be replaced at the same time.

I'm not sure what my next steps would be. The dealer has already said it was not covered.

Probably won't get any resolution till after the holiday.

I will say the dealership did a good job and got me in and out very quick. I jus think they wanted to get paid sooner rather than later.

After researching the fault that the dealer was able to get it to throw, it says "throttle return to default".

I think this should have been covered and will probably submit my claim along with receipts straight to GM reimbursement.

your power train warranty would not cover it?

The powertrain warranty was explained to me a few years ago by a GM rep. at a dealership. He stated that the easiest way to know if it's coveres is : "The ONLY things that are covered by the powertrain warranty are the items that get fluid".

The throttle body is not included in the powertrai nwarranty. You have to read the fine print on those things.

That rep. said the front diff., the rear, engine, and transmission, and that's about it.

It's the letter that I received in the mail that I'm curious about, not so much the PT warranty.

The code that they tripped when they drove it was P2119. "throttle return to default". Either that fault is covered by GM and the letter they sent or it is not but I do not feel I was shot straight by the dealer. I would like to know specifically what fault code GM is planning on covering with the extended warranty and no charge repairs.

The letter says :

This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2008 model year Silverado vehicles w/ V8 engine may have condition where the TPS may cause the engine to run rough and cause indicator lamp for "Reduced Engine Power".

If the throttle body itself was the problem you had, then no, it isn't covered under the TPS issue. The throttle body is not mentioned in the letter, ONLY the Throttle Position Sensor.....

I still haven't received a letter for my 2010 Silverado. Does it say the same as the earlier years?
