High RPM's

It's been almost below zero nights and only a high of 20 during the day. When I get into my truck and start it when it's cold, the shift points seem to be really screwy? It don't shift out of second until almost 30mph at 2500 rpm. cruising town at 25mph, the rpm's are about 2K, and normally they are at 1K or less. Am I the only one, should I have my truck looked at? The warranty is up in 1,000 miles and don't want this problem to become a future problem after warranty.

Its normal.  Its a safe mode for the transmission.  Until the trans warms up it will shift funny.  I think in the manual it talks about this situation (check it out).

Mine has done this for 3 winters now.  I agree it is annoying but i guess it reduces wear on the trans

thanks. I didn't drive my truck last winter, I had a winter beater, this was my first experience with it.

I won't worry about it.

When I had my 01 BlaZeR2 it said in the manual that the tranny wouldnt even shift into OD until it has warmed up. Didnt see anything about it in the rado book but if feels the say way in cold weather.

My '99 also did this and it was programmed into it.  My '03 does it, but very much less aggressive, and not even noticeably different from warmer mornings till it's down to like 15 above or less.

My new F250 does that and the Silverado I owned did it too.  I think the manual for the F250 says it allows the engine to rev higher between shifts so that everything will heat up faster in cold weather.

Mine will run high on a cold start, then after work- sitting in the lot all day, she'll hold in gear around 30 and be hesitant to shift until things get warmed up.  Normal as all have said.
