2006 Silverado 50K Services

Well my son is back from the air force with the 2006 Silverado i let him take. There wasn't anything around but jiffy lube to change oil. So the question is what should i do to get it back on a service schedule?

 

Change the following fluids and such:

front & rear diff changes

transfer case drain and fill

oil change (DIC shows 45%)

tranny flush or just filter and fluid

Coolant flush or leave alone as it is dex.

I do not think it had a fuel filter to change.

Air filter

 

Anything else i sould have him do to get back on track. Does not tow anything if that matters.

My truck hit 50K as well, and I have the same question. For mine, I plan on oil change, transmission flush (NOT backflush) and and filter change, transfer case fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, coolant, and make sure front end parts/u joints are all properly greased.

 

I'm not doing differential fluid right now as I am regearing soon.

Everything on your list, especially the coolant. If it's the OEM fill, it's time for change. Don't fall for the 100k thing. No you don't have a serviceable fuel filter. Transmission - just do a pan drop and filter change. Refill with Dex VI trans fluid

 

I'd do a brake fluid flush at some point. Power steering flush at some point

I take it DEx VI is okay to mix with DEX III with no issues. new type fluid.

I did it in my 2001 sunfire runs like a top they are compatible. But you already have dexron 6. Your truck might already have it in there from the factory. Look on the transmission dipstick

'06 should already have Dex VI in it. But yes Dex VI is backwards

It's NOT ok to put dexron 3 in a dexron 6 transmission

Is it okay to put synthetic oils in the front diff as well as the rear? Use same 75-90 synthetic?

 

What brand is best or most commonly used by folks on the list?

Yes it's ok to use 75w-90 synthetics.

 

Mobli1, Amsoil etc.... Any quality name brand

Yep, 75-90 synthetic. No limited slip additives. Any name brand oil will work: AmsOil, Mobil, Castrol, etc. You'll need three quarts for the rear diff.

with the mention of limited slip i have G80 rear diff. I do not need to add the stuff the dealer has for G80 locking rear diff? Synthetic will take care of that with no issues?

Correct. NO additive is needed for the G80 locker in these trucks

Interior cabin filter? Do the 2006 silverados have the cabin filter? i see listing for 99-2007 filters. some locations say not after 2002.

 

Please lete me know so i can change if there is one.

Nope no cabin air filter.
