Seafoam Spray - question on use

The other day I was in O'Reilly's and saw the Seafoam spray with the special nozzle to use on the throttle body. I got to reading the can and noticed that it said for 2 and 4-cycle engines.

 

I assume it is safe for our trucks but I guess the 2 and 4-cycle wording had me wondering.

 

Has anybody used hte spray application and found that it works better than sucking the liquid through the booster line? I figured that the spray would get to all cylinders more evenly than through the brake booster line.post-49091-0-47726500-1360203060_thumb.jpg

Yes, its safe for your truck. That pretty much means its safe for all gasoline engines.

 

Ive used it, and I like it WAY better than pouring the can down the vac line. My truck ran so roughly with the vac line disconnected i couldnt get the proper amount in there. I bought the spray and did it just like the instructions said, and it worked amazingly. I even used it to clean the carb on a 2-stroke pressure washer that was running rough. Worked great then too.

Yea. I tried pouring it through the vac line and didn't doing that either. It was also tough to do on my wife's Audi.

 

I think I'll pick up a can and try to do it this weekend.

I have never poured it down the booster line, I pour the seafoam in a cup and let the line suck it out. The spray can works just fine as long as you use the bent straw they give you.

It works fine. May take multiple applications if you have a lot of carbon. Follow the distructions. Don't put the whole can in at once. And be ready for tons of smoke. Also after you spay out into the hot motor, give it half an hour to soak in, then go and make some 0 to 60 runs to blow all that 'stuff' out. An it is going to smoke... lots of smoke.

Seafoam CAN foul your plugs. I'd only seafoam right before you're about to change the plugs. IMO its pretty useless to seafoam any engine with under 100k on it

I did mine when I bought it because I wasnt sure what kind of maintenance the previous owner performed. ONly had 87k on it. Unless you are buying a used veuhicle, I wouldnt bother with one under 100K either.

I've been getting an the cold start tick at random lately. I've taken it to the dealer 3 or 4 times but as always they cannot duplicate the tick when they start it when I leave it with them overnight. They say that it could be carbon build up that is causing the lifter/value to stick some. If I have to change the plugs I will, they are not that much anyways.

 

I have 62,000 on it so figured what they heck. Can't hurt it.

i have been using Sea Foam for many years on a lot of different vehicles i have owned, and never had to change the plugs after using it. if they needed to be changed, most often the plugs were shot to begin with..

 

as for the lifter noise, did they rule out piston slap? if it's a sticky lifter(s) try some Marvel Mystery Oil. works best for sticky lifters IMO. follow the directions for putting into the oil..been around for almost 100 years, so i guess they know what their doing.. :thumbs: .

Most times when it fols the plug, its because it broke off so much carbon that some may have been lodged into the plug. But, Ive never had any problem with it fouling plugs either.

      There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.

      I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.

      Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
