2010 GMC Sierra A/C Refrigerant blowing out air vents

I have a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 4.8L and it has an A/C prob. Was on a job site a few weeks ago and when I got in my truck and started it the A/C refrigerant started blowing out of the air vents directly into my face. I have experience working on auto A/C so I could tell by the smell.

My question is? Did the Evaporator spring a leak and allow the refrigerant to leak into the air ducts since its the only A/C component inside the cab or could it be a seal or O-ring? I think it had to of sprung a leak because the only seal for the evaporator is under the hood at the firewall.

If it is the Evap. does the entire dash have to be removed to replace it on 2010 sierra?

Id like a second opinion before I order parts and start removing the dash.

Why not take it to the dealer?

this job is not a DIY ,,,but do what ya want ,,,at least get a service manual, alldata.com

the older trucks had to at the very least raise the dash carcass and pull out abit ,,,big job
