2004 2500hd 6.0 wont turn in 4x4 was backing my 2 place snowmobile trailer in today and was sliding everywhere in my snow covered yard so I put it in 4hi and went straight back with some very minor turns, unhooked the trailer and pulled out, went to make a sharper turn and it wouldn't do it it makes a almost whining noise with any pressure on the wheel, to clarify before anyone makes any comments about me being an idiot it was NOT on dry pavement at any time and i do know how turning radius is reduced when in 4x4, everything appears to be there and in good shape (nothing broken) any ideas? sorry about my grammar typing this on the wifes tablet...

How sharp of a turn were you trying to make? Regardless of the surface being driven on 4x4's don't like tight turn because the driveline will bind up. I know on my truck I can't go to full lock in 4x4 or it'll "yell" at me everytime, even when I play in the mud or when I used to drive in the snow.

Same here, unless you are on glare ice, the power steering & suspension will not like a very tight turn while locked in 4WD. It will object even in hard packed snow. It should eventually slip and release some of the tension as it goes. I have also noticed that this is even more pronounced on vehicles where the front wheel alignment is off, even a little...... the front two wheels and the rear axle are fighting each other for direction and rotation speed.

If you bought the truck used, the previous owner may have changed the front differential to some type of locker or limited slip setup, instead of the open diff that came standard. My cousin's D-max has a locker in the front (because he sled pulls it) and it bites like a sow when turning in four wheel drive.

my truck will yell at me also, when in 4x4 and try too turn sharply.

possibly normal but, you would know your truck best.

If no noise while driving straight and minor turns, only noise during a sharp turn would indicate what has been explained above.

No, Do not turn full steering in 4X4 mode, especially on asphalt. You have two options make half turn and do a ot of reverse actions or make in 2 wheel drive, you would save half the turning radius
