built my first 2014

I work for a dealership and while we have no allocation yet, we can build trucks now. No prices, but interesting to see the different configurations we can come up with. I built a bronze v6 6'6" bed Z71 SLE with nav and cloth heated seats! I thought it was cool to be able to get that engine in so much truck. The v6 and 6.2 will be late availability, so everything at first will be 5.3. I can't wait to see the power numbers for these engines and the fuel economy potential of the 4.3. I played around all afternoon building trucks, trying to get a sense of the way the packages will look. It is very addicting.

Any idea what month(s) the 6.2 is available?

Is the 8 speed available on Denali or at end of year?

Any info on HD trucks?

Thanks for your post

does it look like there will be color match options on the mirrors, door handles, etc. on the ltz models?

door handles, mirror caps and moldings are color keyed on SLE in 14 standard.

SLT has standard chrome handles, mirror caps and a little strip in the molding.

no mention of when the 6.2 will be available.

Intersting theory on the denali/8spd, I know the denali is coming, but i haven't seen anything about an 8spd at all. The six speed seems to be a solid trans and will be behind all three new motors.

I haven't seen aything about HD. maybe it will carryover, I don't know for sure.

hope they get a package for color stuff figured out for the ltz/slt. On the chevy site, its either chrome or black plastic as options for the little build your own tool they have.

I hope they have the color keyed options available too. the chrome everything approach seems so.....RAM or Dodge or whatever they are this week. I would love the Chevy grill(awesome headlights), and no molding, color keyed everything, with GMC AT wheels(gray), on a silver truck...!

For the 2014 Silverado 1500 outside chrome caps for the mirrors are standard on the 2LTZ and the 1LTZ. But it is not available with (DPN) power camper mirrors on the 1LTZ. Body-color mirror caps are included and only available with (PDA) Texas Edition or (PEB) Custom Sport on the 1LT.

Thanks Tricia, not sure if you can do anything to inform higher ups, but gm needs to know that not all of us like the chrome stuff, but would like the higher end trim models. I happen to be one of those, and there are many on this forum as well. Many customers feel that color match looks higher end than the chrome.

Would be nice for them to bring back Arrival Blue

Tricia, I have a few questions if you could please help answer them I would really really really appreciate it.

1. When will I be able to go to a dealership and order a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT 4WD Crew Cab 5.3?

2. How long will it take to deliver?

3. I assume I can't special order it with a color not listed as available? I want grey but don't like the blue in the slate grey nor do I like the purple in the Iridium Metallic. I would LOVE it if I could get it with the 2013 color: Steel Grey Metallic. Possible?

4. Is the suspension on the 4WD 2014 the same as the 4WD 2013?

5. Would I be more likely to get the truck sooner if I order it or just wait for them to show up at dealerships and buy one in stock?

These questions have been making me crazy for the last 2 months, please help! :)

4. The suspension is basically unchanged from the 2007.5 - 2013 trucks. GM calls the 2014 trucks all new because they added some high strength steel to the frame and I believe added / changed where the frame is boxed. I have read some Articles that the suspension is unchanged except for maybe different shock offerings.

I my just have to buy a 13, I may not be able to wait for the 6.2's to be released this fall. If the MPG and HP / TQ is amazing then I will do my best and wait

It will be interesting to see what the weight of the new trucks are compared GMT900. I know they added high strength steel to parts of the frame and cab. The hood is now aluminum and the beds are stronger rolled steel. If the truck weighs 300 - 500lbs less plus 50 more HP / TQ will fell like a whole new beast!

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
