Anyone else have problems with cracked plastic in their interior?

I haven't even done my first oil change yet, and both front door handles are cracked in the exact same place. They also creak and crack with any applied pressure at all(adjusting my arse on the seat for example.) The panel for the passenger airbag isn't even flush with the dash.. Just looks sloppy and cheap.

I'm dropping my truck off when I go on vacation next week. To address the vibrations, the cracked door handles/arm rests, and the fog light that is burnt out already.. 3700 km later...

Quality.

I know my interior isn't as good as my 2009 was. I have poor panel fitment, and a really annoying rattle which sounds like it's coming from behind the instrument cluster. I was going to tell my dealer, but I'm afraid that they'll tear it apart, and I'll be worse off than I was before. I'm really picky about how things look so I would like to find it on my own that way when I put it back together it's exactly how it should be.

No problems here....I can say tgat my 2008 interior is much tighter than my 2010. The 2010 panels don't fit together as tight as the 2008 for some reason. Both are LT trim with the same options except the 2008 has trailer brake and auto clinate control.

Yeah I'm the same as far as them ripping it apart. I'm worried it'll never be the same. I'll see what they say, and I'll take some pics tomorrow.

I'm so rattled, because this is my first new truck, and it cost me a bloody fortune. I expect it to be perfect, and I have a very picky attention to detail. I notice everything.

Haha same here man. I notice EVERY imperfection, and sometimes it sucks because it can ruin a lot of things.

bought my '12 back last summer and was great til about 3 months of driving. Since then the dealer has had to replace nice backup sensors and 3 wiring harnesses. We have more winter here in Saskatchewan than not and Ive found that somewhere in the dash or firewall on the passanger side loves to give a nasty constant squeak when its cold out. Annoys the crap out of me and all the dealer says is that it's normal for when the plastic gets cold or ice builds up on the firewall. When I spend 57k on a truck I thought a little quality would be put into the vehicle. Driving past the Ford or Dodge dealer every morning to work listening to this squeak makes me wish more and more I woulda taken one for a test drive.

Sadly, until you get to the stitched interiors on the top trim levels, all mfg's have this cheap plastic squeaking/cracking crap going on.

The more I read online, the more I wish I could find a '98 gmt400 stashed away in a garage that only has 30,000 miles on it. :driving:

Yep. I've only had my truck in the cold prairie months so far, so all I hear and all these noises and creaking plastic. I'm in the exact same boat as you, even paid the same for mine. This purchase happened fast, and while I was working, so I didn't even take the time to drive other trucks. But have driven a 2013 Dodge recently. Felt so much more solid everywhere. Hell, even my front end is making noises already. Its sad.

I've had 3 of GM's trucks now. Two brand new, and one like new with 17,000 miles on it when I bought it. I plan on running my current truck into the ground since it has everything I wanted in a truck, but if I ever buy brand new again I have decided it will not be a GM. Not really sure what brand it would be, but I would consider all other options, and pick from there.

Yeah I'm debating whether or not I should do the same with this one. It does have everything I want. This is also my third. My first was a 2000 reg cab complete base model 4x4, bought in 2004 with 130,000 and drove it to 415,000km.. Dif and tranny and two fuel pumps later.. Second was my 07 vmax, bought in 2010 with 70,000, drove to 207,000km.. Now this one. It's my last, if this is what buying new gets you.

There is another blizzard here today, but I promise i'll take some pics of these cracks in the handles. I have a feeling its a defect. its's weird though, they are basically identical. It's in a concealed spot, but like I said, I notice everything haha.

that sucks, luckily havnt had issues with mine. Hope the can remedy it, a truck that new should not be experiencing that stuff.

You should hear the creaks and cracks when I lean on the arm rest on the door. Sounds so bad. It's not like I weight 300 lbs, I'm 185 haha.

Kneel down kind of at the side of your truck one time, and look at the area above the wheels on your beside. It's harder to see on a light colored truck, but if you look in the right light you can see wavy sheet metal. I never noticed it on my white truck, but I do on this one. My guess is because of how thin the sheet metal is it deformed the steel when they formed the wheel opening on the bedsides. That's quality there.

    • I agree with Tim.  As tech heavy as engines are these days, no way I’d be an early buyer of the new 6.6.  Of course, I bought my ‘26 Denali w/the 6.2 after dumping my Tundra with it’s defective 3.5 liter imploding engine disaster, so I’m a little gun-shy.  That said, my 6.2 has been rock solid.  I don’t drive it like I do my BMW Z4 M40i, but I don’t baby it either.  I got a V8 for a reason.  But I’m averaging 18 around town and 22 highway.  I have seen 24 highway as well when I wasn’t loaded up heavy.  Considering my Tundra with the twin turbo V6 only got 14.5 in town and 17 on the road, I’ll take the 6.2 all day, every day.  If I were you, I’d grab a ‘26 while you can.  Inventories are probably gonna start dropping and I’ll bet the deals will start looking sweeter as well.
    • I am curious if anyone has figured out a way to add an hard button AUX or 360 Camera switch to the center row of switches. I have a 2021 AT4, and want to split the hill decent button and add a 360 camera button so that you don't have to go into the center display and locate the camera functionality, etc...   My father's 2024 Yukon XL AT4 and it has a hard button, see below. I found this thread on the Yukons, but it seems like there may not be a part number for the 2021 sierras. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/255339-adding-hard-button-for-camera-on-2021/ Anyone else figured this out. Seems like it would need to be a custom switch!   I am getting ready to install the auto stop/start eliminator, so would be nice to knock them out at once.     Upvote1Downvote0Go to comments
    • Looks like the entire state is burning. 😬
    • Through the years it hasn't been my typical method as I tried to drop oil on an engine that was hot from having been worked, however that was not always practical and had to fire up a unit and let it warm up reasonably well and drop the oil when I had the time to do it but am referring to not only vehicles but a variety of farm equipment and highway tractors etc. However on a vehicle where one is crawling under it and the exhaust is nearby to ones body and if wanting to pull the plug without danger of being hit with boiling hot oil or attempting to remove a HOT oil filter, its sure safer and easier to not have everything smoking hot and can remove the filter right away when under the vehicle and let it all drain. Of course its not the end of the world if a bit of oil stays in the engine that might have eventually found its way out, I like to get out as much as possible but any oil changes that take place in shops would rarely be sitting around for very long at all before the plug is thrown back in and filter slapped on and oil poured in and sent out the door quick like. There would be very little time spent ( assuming they even did it ) in starting the engine with oil to fill the filter, then waiting to verify the level on the stick. A good reason to check ones oil level shortly after a shop changed the oil on a vehicle just to make sure its correct and to look under for any oil around the drain plug or filter.
